Veeam 7.0: installing Backup Enterprise Manager

Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager allows the administrators to manage multiple Veeam installations from a single web console.

This feature makes administration job easier having the global overview of backups configured in your network without accessing each Veeam Backup installation.

 

Procedure

Launch the application setup. Click Next to start the wizard.

Accept the EULA then click Next.

Provide a valid license file to enable Backup Enterprise Manager then click Next.

Select the features to be installed then click Next.

Process starts the configuration check for missing features.

Missing prerequisites are installed in the system. A reboot may be required to complete the installation.

When the configuration check is complete, click Next to continue.

Enter the service account used by Veeam. Specify same account used previously during Veeam Backup & Replication installation. Click Next.

If an external SQL server is used, select Use existing instance of SQL Server option and the correct instance. Click OK to confirm.

Click Next to continue.

Leave default values. Click Next.

When all parameters have been set, click Install button to start the installation.

A progressive bar shows the installation status.

When setup has finished installing the application, click Finish to exit the wizard.

Access Veeam Backup Enterprise Manger by typing the credentials in your browser then click Login.

The main screen is shown. A warning reports the configurations requested like Backup Servers that must be configured. Click the Configuration button to access the configuration window.

Select Backup Server item then click the Add button to set the server.

Type the DNS name or IP address of Veeam Backup Server and the credentials using the account previously specified. Click OK to confirm.

The Backup Server is now configured and listed in the window.

Select vCenter Servers item and click the Install button to set the vCenter Server used to manage the virtual infrastructure to backup.

Select Notifications item and set the SMTP parameters to enable system notifications via email.

The configuration is now complete. Data collected by the system are shown in the main screen reporting all the useful parameters to check the overall status of performed backups.

Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager is a powerful tool able to cover different networks size backup requirements. It’s a component that should be part of the backup infrastructure to make the overall backup process complete and more efficient.
