{"id":13242,"date":"2015-07-06T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-06T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=13242"},"modified":"2020-03-15T18:11:02","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T17:11:02","slug":"veeam-8-0-move-the-software-to-a-new-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-8-0-move-the-software-to-a-new-server\/","title":{"rendered":"Veeam 8.0: move the software to a new server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"veeam8movetoanewserver01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/veeam8movetoanewserver01.jpg\" alt=\"veeam8movetoanewserver01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To move Veeam 8.0 software and database to a new server, there is a specific procedure you must follow to keep the configuration and the backups intact.<\/p>\n<p>Before moving the DB, from the old server stop and <strong>disable all jobs<\/strong> and <strong>stop all Veeam services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Backup Veeam database<\/h2>\n<p>When Veeam jobs and services have been disabled, the backup of current Veeam database is the first step to perform.<\/p>\n<p>To find out where the VeeamBackup <strong>database is located<\/strong>, open <strong>Registry Editor<\/strong> on the old server and navigate to:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Veeam\\Veeam Backup and Replication<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are three DWORDs used to identify server, database and instance:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SqlServerName<\/li>\n<li>SqlInstanceName<\/li>\n<li>SqlDatabaseName<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From the SQL server or from the old server, open the <strong>Server Management Studio<\/strong> and right click the <strong>VeeamBackup<\/strong> database. Select <strong>Tasks &gt; Back Up<\/strong> to backup the DB.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"veeam8movetoanewserver05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/veeam8movetoanewserver05.jpg\" alt=\"veeam8movetoanewserver05\" width=\"406\" height=\"184\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Restore Veeam DB<\/h2>\n<p>On the new server, Veeam suggests to install <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=42299\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u><span style=\"color: #000080;\">SQL Express 2014<\/span><\/u><\/a> for better performance even if SQL Express 2012 is included in the installation files.<\/p>\n<p>To restore the copied database in the new server, open the <strong>Server Management Studio<\/strong>, right click the <strong>Databases<\/strong>\u00a0item and select <strong>Restore Database<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; Replication on the new server<\/h2>\n<p>During the installation is recommended to use a <strong>dedicate service account<\/strong> to run Veeam. The service account must be added to <strong>Local Administrators<\/strong> group to complete the installation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; Replication service. In the example the restored database was backed up from Veeam Backup &amp; Replication Update 2b whilst the installation files refers to Veeam 8.0.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"veeam8movetoanewserver25\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/veeam8movetoanewserver25.jpg\" alt=\"veeam8movetoanewserver25\" width=\"402\" height=\"145\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Change database version<\/h4>\n<p>Set the <strong>version of the VeeamBackup database<\/strong> based on the version previously installed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>database from 8.0: \u00a0 '<strong>1870<\/strong>'<\/li>\n<li>database from 8.0 Update 2: \u00a0 '<strong>2017<\/strong>'<\/li>\n<li>database from 8.0 Update 2a: \u00a0 '<strong>2018<\/strong>'<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Use the follow query to set the correct database version:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Use VeeamBackup<br \/>\nUPDATE [Version] SET current_version = 'number'<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since the used installation files are from version 8.0, the database version must be <strong>set to '1870'<\/strong> in order to complete the installation.<\/p>\n<p>From the <strong>Server Management Studio<\/strong>, create a <strong>new query<\/strong> and type the following commands:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">Use VeeamBackup \r\nUPDATE [Version] SET current_version = '1870'<\/pre>\n<p>Click <strong>Execute<\/strong> to run the query. If no errors are displayed in the <strong>Messages<\/strong> area, the database version has been updated successfully.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"veeam8movetoanewserver26\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/veeam8movetoanewserver26.jpg\" alt=\"veeam8movetoanewserver26\" width=\"600\" height=\"417\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now the Veeam installation can continue with the <strong>Port configuration<\/strong>.
