The vSphere Update Manager configuration is the last step to perform in the VCSA 6.0 before applying patches or updates to ESXi hosts.<\/p>\n
The configuration is made trough the vSphere Client that also in vSphere 6.0 has the duty to manage VUM.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
VCSA 6.0: setup vSphere Update Manager - pt. 1 <\/a> <\/p>\n To scan hosts or VMs for compliance, Baselines have to be attached<\/strong> to the Update Manager to properly scan the system.<\/p>\n Open the vSphere Client and select the Update Manger<\/strong> tab. Click on Attach<\/strong> link to attach the desired baselines.<\/p>\n Select default Patch Baselines<\/strong> then click on Attach<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n Click the Scan<\/strong> link to scan the hosts for compliance.<\/p>\n Select the options to\u00a0scan the host for and click on \u00a0Scan<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n Hosts are being scanned.<\/p>\n If one or more hosts are not compliant, a red circle is displayed to warn\u00a0new patches are available<\/strong> to install.<\/p>\n To proceed with\u00a0updates, you can Stage<\/strong> and Remediate<\/strong>\u00a0available patches:<\/p>\n The vSphere Web Client<\/strong>\u00a0currently offers the possibility to attach the baselines and scan<\/strong> the environment only.<\/p>\n The scan entity performed by vSphere Web Client.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Once VUM scan has completed, click Stage<\/strong> to download patches to the selected hosts.<\/p>\n Select Baselines<\/strong> and Hosts<\/strong> to patch then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n You can deselect patches you don't want to be staged. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n When ready, click Finish<\/strong> to proceed.<\/p>\n Patches are staged to the selected hosts.<\/p>\n When the process has completed successfully, hosts is ready to be updated.<\/p>\n Click Remediate<\/strong> to install patches in the hosts.<\/p>\n Staged patches ready to be installed are displayed. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Leave default selection then click\u00a0Next<\/strong>\u00a0to continue.<\/p>\n Type a\u00a0Task Name<\/strong>, a\u00a0Task Description<\/strong>\u00a0and specify when to perform the Remediation<\/strong>. Click\u00a0Next<\/strong>\u00a0to continue.<\/p>\n Change default configuration if required then click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Select options that match your\u00a0environment to automate the update process and\u00a0click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Click Finish<\/strong> to apply patches.<\/p>\n The patches are applied to selected hosts. One ESXi at time<\/strong> is processed and hosted virtual machines are migrated to other hosts available in the cluster.<\/p>\n The patching takes several minutes and when the process is finished\u00a0the column\u00a0Status<\/strong> is marked as Completed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Hosts are now fully compliant.<\/p>\n The patching procedure is complete.<\/p>\n The vSphere Update Manager configuration is the last step to perform in the VCSA 6.0 before applying patches or updates to ESXi hosts.
