The installation procedure requires two main components to setup in the vCenter Server and in all the hosts members of the FVP Cluster.<\/p>\n<p>The installation requires in addition an MS-SQL Server 2014 (recommended) to store the FVP database. The Express version is fine for small environments.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Blog series<\/h2>\n<p>PernixData FVP 3.0 installation - pt.1<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/pernixdata-fvp-3-0-configuration-pt-2\/\">PernixData FVP 3.0 configuration - pt.2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>FVP Installation<\/h2>\n<p>PernixData FVP 3.0 requires two modules to install in the core components of vSphere:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FVP Host Extension Module (hosts)<\/li>\n<li>FVP Management Server (vCenter)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Install FVP Host Extension Module<\/h2>\n<p>Three steps are required to install the new FVP Host Extension Module:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put host in Maintenance Mode<\/li>\n<li>Remove old FVP Host Extension Module if installed<\/li>\n<li>Install new version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Put host in maintenance mode<\/h4>\n<p>From the vSphere Client, right click the host to upgrade and select <strong>Enter Maintenance Mode<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment02.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment02\" width=\"411\" height=\"310\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The host is in Maintenance Mode.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment04.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment04\" width=\"600\" height=\"527\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Uninstall old version<\/h4>\n<p>If a previous release is installed on the host, it must be removed. <strong>SSH<\/strong> the host ESXi to upgrade and uninstall the FVP Host Extension Module running the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000a0;\"># cp \/opt\/pernixdata\/bin\/prnxuninstall.sh \/tmp\/ &amp;&amp; \/tmp\/prnxuninstall.sh<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment05.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment05\" width=\"600\" height=\"171\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you experience <strong>any problem<\/strong> during the uninstall process (see the example), first check if PernixData is still installed in the system running\u00a0the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000a0;\"># esxcli software vib list<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment11.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment11\" width=\"409\" height=\"303\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Install the FVP Management Server<\/h2>\n<p>Since PernixData recommends to run the FVP Management Server service <strong>using an AD account<\/strong>, create the account and make sure to grant the following permissions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Full administrator<\/strong> permissions to vCenter<\/li>\n<li><strong>Database owner (DBO)<\/strong> permissions to the SQL Server database used by FVP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition configure the database to use <strong>simple recovery mode<\/strong> or schedule the database for regular full backups to limit the database transaction log file grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SQL Browser<\/strong> service startup type should be set as <strong>automatic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Install the Management Server<\/h4>\n<p>Since the virtual\u00a0infrastructure in use relies on\u00a0vCSA version of\u00a0vCenter, the FVP Management Server is installed in a Windows\u00a0of the network with MS-SQL Server 2014 already installed.<\/p>\n<p>Run the <strong>FVP Management Server installer<\/strong> to proceed with installation. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment25\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment25.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment25\" width=\"497\" height=\"245\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you get the error shown here below, check if the AD service account has the <strong>correct permissions in SQL<\/strong> and it's a member of <strong>Local Administrators<\/strong> group.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment26\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment26.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment26\" width=\"376\" height=\"185\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the installation has been completed, click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to exit the Wizard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"fvp30deployment27\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/fvp30deployment27.jpg\" alt=\"fvp30deployment27\" width=\"514\" height=\"393\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Access the Management Console<\/h2>\n<p>In FVP 3.0 the Management Console is configured as a <strong>standalone UI<\/strong> and you don't need to use a vSphere client to access.<\/p>\n<p>FVP provides three <strong>levels of access<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>No access<\/strong>: the user cannot view any FVP 3.0 information<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read-only<\/strong>: the user can only view information about the FVP 3.0 deployment<\/li>\n<li><strong>Administrator<\/strong>: the user has full administrator rights to the FVP 3.0 deployment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FVP 3.0 permissions and vCenter permissions are <strong>identical<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Using your\u00a0favorite browser, type the address <strong>http:\/\/FVP_address:60001\/login<\/strong> to access the web console and enter the credentials of the user who has been granted the appropriate vCenter permissions.
