The setup\u00a0of the vCenter Server, ESXi hosts and storage specifies the parameters needed by\u00a0VM Explorer to perform backup, replica and restore jobs.<\/p>\n

Setup the virtual environment<\/h2>\n

Access Trilead VM Explorer Web Console<\/strong> by entering in the browser the correct credentials and click Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the main screen, click Add a new Server<\/strong> button to start the configuration.<\/p>\n

In the example, a\u00a0VMware infrastructure is\u00a0configured\u00a0in VM Explorer. Under VMware<\/strong> section, click on vCenter<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

The configuration wizard starts asking for vCenter parameters. In Name & Location<\/strong> tab type the Display Name<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Connection Settings<\/strong>\u00a0tab enter the Hostname<\/strong> and the credentials of the account used to connect the server. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

In Port Settings<\/strong> tab leave default HTTPS Port<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A Test Connection<\/strong> is performed automatically by the system and click Next<\/strong> when completed successfully.<\/p>\n

In the Summary<\/strong> tab click Save<\/strong> to store the configuration.<\/p>\n

Configure ESXi hosts<\/h4>\n

The configured vCenter Server displays the connected ESXi<\/strong> hosts that have to be configured as well. Right click the first ESXi host and select Edit Server<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

Type the host's\u00a0Display Name<\/strong> then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Connection Settings<\/strong> tab enter the Hostname<\/strong>\u00a0(FQDN or IP Address) and the account used to connect the host. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Leave default values in Port Settings<\/strong> tab then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Depending on the vSphere release installed in the\u00a0network (in the example vSphere 6.0 is used), enable the SSH<\/strong> and VMX agent<\/strong> accordingly.<\/p>\n

In Advanced Settings<\/strong> you configure the options\u00a0used by the backup process like the CBT technology\u00a0<\/strong>used for incremental backup. First time you enable Use VD Service<\/strong> option, the VD Service must be initialized. Click Install\/Initialize VD Service<\/strong> to proceed.<\/p>\n

Download from VMware website the VDDK 5.5.3 package<\/a>\u00a0required\u00a0by the service. Click Browse<\/strong> button to select the downloaded file then click Initialize VD Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The package is being installed and initialized.<\/p>\n

When VDDK is successfully initialized, click Close<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now click OK<\/strong> to close the VD Service initialization window and click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

The Test Connection<\/strong> is automatically performed by the system to check the configured parameters. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Click\u00a0on\u00a0Browse<\/strong> button to specify the storage used by the selected server as a target for backup<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Storages attached to the selected\u00a0host\u00a0are displayed. Select or create the directory\u00a0to store the backup then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Next to the storage selected, add the suffix {VM}<\/strong> to group the backup per VMs' display name. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

In the Summary<\/strong> tab click Save<\/strong> to store the configuration.<\/p>\n

Repeat same steps<\/strong> for all the other hosts of your virtual environment.<\/p>\n
