Replication is another feature of\u00a0Trilead VM Explorer 6.0 that allows the administrators to quickly restore the\u00a0VMs functionality in case of failure.<\/p>\n

In addition to the backup, replication is a good solution for those VMs where\u00a0the\u00a0RTO (Recovery Time Objective) value needs to be as low as possible since they\u00a0just need to be powered on.<\/p>\n

Configure a manual Replication Task<\/h2>\n

Access the VM Explorer web console and click on Replicate a Virtual Machine<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Selected the Host<\/strong> previously configured, select the\u00a0VM<\/strong> to replicate. Set the target Directory<\/strong> and enable the options under the\u00a0Target<\/strong> section. Click OK<\/strong> to start the replication.<\/p>\n

From main menu select Tasks > Task History<\/strong> item. Click on task Name\u00a0<\/strong>to display the details.<\/p>\n

All details related to current replication\u00a0are shown in the window. Click OK<\/strong> to close.<\/p>\n

Schedule a Replica<\/h2>\n

From main menu select Tasks > Scheduled Tasks<\/strong>. Right click the area in the left side of the screen and select Add Scheduled Task<\/strong> item.<\/p>\n

Give\u00a0a Task Name<\/strong> then fill the required fields under Schedule<\/strong> section. Click OK<\/strong> to store\u00a0the settings.<\/p>\n

The Scheduled Replica\u00a0<\/strong>has been created.<\/p>\n

Click on Add<\/strong> button to create\u00a0the Replication Task<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select\u00a0Multi VM<\/strong>\u00a0item as type of task to add.<\/p>\n

Set the Host<\/strong> then click on\u00a0Select VMs<\/strong> button to choose the VMs to replicate.<\/p>\n

Select the virtual machines to replicate then click Add<\/strong>. Click OK<\/strong> when done.<\/p>\n

Specify the target Directory<\/strong> and the action to perform\u00a0if the target directory exists.<\/p>\n

In File & Disks<\/strong> tab you can enable the After replication convert as thin disk<\/strong>\u00a0option to save space in the storage.<\/p>\n

In the Snapshot<\/strong> tab you can configure the Virtual Machine Snapshot Options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nothing to configure in the\u00a0Connection<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0Replication<\/strong> tab you specify the Replication Options<\/strong> and\u00a0the Number of Restore Points to be kept<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Advanced<\/strong> tab you can configure the actions for powered on and suspended<\/strong> VMs. Click OK<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n

To force the replication without waiting for the scheduled time, click on\u00a0Run this Task Now<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

From main menu select Tasks > Task History<\/strong>\u00a0to check the task status. Click on the replica task Name<\/strong> to display the details.<\/p>\n

When the replica task has been completed without any issue, the\u00a0Result<\/strong> is marked as Success<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Test Replication<\/h2>\n

From main menu select Management > Replication Explorer<\/strong> to check for\u00a0available replicas.<\/p>\n

The replicated VMs can be found in the ESXi selected\u00a0as Host<\/strong> target during task configuration.<\/p>\n

To test the replica, shutdown one of the VM<\/strong> that has been replicated.<\/p>\n

Click OK<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n

From Management >\u00a0Replication Explorer\u00a0<\/strong>right click the replica to activate then\u00a0select Power On<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

The replica is being powered on.<\/p>\n

If you receive the following warning, just select I Copied It<\/strong> option and click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From the\u00a0Datacenter<\/strong> tab, the selected replica is now active.<\/p>\n

To\u00a0power off the replicated VM, from main menu\u00a0select Management >\u00a0Replication Explorer<\/strong>\u00a0item. Right click the active replica and select Power off<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

When the replica has been powered off, power on the original virtual machine<\/strong> to restore the normal functionality.<\/p>\n
