{"id":16531,"date":"2016-04-26T10:00:07","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T08:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=16531"},"modified":"2023-07-16T11:24:59","modified_gmt":"2023-07-16T09:24:59","slug":"esxi-6-0-update-2-bug-with-vmxnet3-vnics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/esxi-6-0-update-2-bug-with-vmxnet3-vnics\/","title":{"rendered":"ESXi 6.0 Update 2 bug with VMXNET3 vNICs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16536 size-full\" title=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esxi60upd2bugvnic01.jpg\" alt=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ESXi 6.0 Update 2 has introduced a bug with VMXNET3 vNICs that causes the ESXi to crash.<\/p>\n<p>When the host fails it displays a purple diagnostic screen containing the error:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Vmxnet3VMKDevRxWithLock and Vmxnet3VMKDevRx<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At the moment there is no fix for this issue\u00a0and the\u00a0workaround is to <strong>disable\u00a0hardware LRO<\/strong> for VMXNET3 on the ESXi host.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Workaround<\/h2>\n<p>To disable the hardware LRO on the ESXi host, go to host <strong>Manage &gt; Settings &gt;\u00a0Advanced System Settings<\/strong> and select option <strong>Net.Vmxnet3HwLRO<\/strong>. Click on <strong>Edit<\/strong> icon to change the value.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16537 size-large\" title=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esxi60upd2bugvnic02-600x243.jpg\" alt=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic02\" width=\"600\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Set Vmxnet3HwLRO <strong>value to 0<\/strong> then click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16538 size-full\" title=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esxi60upd2bugvnic03.jpg\" alt=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic03\" width=\"401\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Net.Vmxnet3HwLRO is now set to 0.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16539 size-large\" title=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esxi60upd2bugvnic04-600x289.jpg\" alt=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic04\" width=\"600\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Same action can be performed using <strong>esxcli command<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli system settings advanced set -o \/Net\/Vmxnet3HwLRO -i 0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16548 size-large\" title=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esxi60upd2bugvnic05-600x54.jpg\" alt=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic05\" width=\"600\" height=\"54\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Software LRO is enabled for VMXNET3 when hardware LRO is disabled.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16549 size-large\" title=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esxi60upd2bugvnic06-600x353.jpg\" alt=\"esxi60upd2bugvnic06\" width=\"600\" height=\"353\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another possible fix\u00a0is to revert the ESXi host to a previously install version.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Update 23\/05\/2016<\/h4>\n<p>VMware released a patch to\u00a0fix the problem\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kb.vmware.com\/kb\/2144685\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KB2144685<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"firma\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ESXi 6.0 Update 2 has introduced a bug with VMXNET3 vNICs that causes the ESXi to crash.
