{"id":16797,"date":"2016-05-23T09:00:02","date_gmt":"2016-05-23T07:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/?p=16797"},"modified":"2023-07-16T11:24:59","modified_gmt":"2023-07-16T09:24:59","slug":"vmware-vsphere-c-client-discontinued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-c-client-discontinued\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware vSphere C# Client will be discontinued"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16776 size-full\" title=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/vsphereclientdiscontinued01.jpg\" alt=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>VMware has just announced that the VMware vSphere C# Client will be discontinued in the next vSphere release leaving the current Web Client the <strong>only available tool<\/strong>\u00a0to manage the infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>It's still unclear when VMware will release the new version of vSphere\u00a0but this decision leaves a certain\u00a0perplexity in the community due to current issues with vSphere\u00a0Web Client.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To manage the vSphere infrastructure administrators are currently <strong>using both C# and Web clients<\/strong> where some actions can be done only using a <strong>specific UI<\/strong>.\u00a0For instance,\u00a0<strong>VUM<\/strong> is fully supported using the <strong>C# Client only<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16777 size-large\" title=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/vsphereclientdiscontinued02-600x357.jpg\" alt=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued02\" width=\"600\" height=\"357\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The setup of advanced features like <strong>VSAN<\/strong> can be done <strong>only through the Web Client<\/strong>\u00a0instead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16778 size-large\" title=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/vsphereclientdiscontinued03-600x407.jpg\" alt=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued03\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The current version of Web Client still has plenty of problems. It is a\u00a0<strong>flash-based<\/strong> client with a\u00a0<strong>limited devices support<\/strong>, it\u00a0<strong>crashes quite often<\/strong> and it is<strong> slow<\/strong> compared to C# Client.<\/p>\n<p>For a\u00a0long time, the community is claiming for a new <strong>HTML5 &amp; JavaScript version<\/strong> of the Web Client which is faster and supported by an higher number of devices and browsers.<\/p>\n<p>So far <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/fling-vsphere-html5-web-client-setup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fling<\/a>\u00a0is the only Web Client based on<strong> HTML5 &amp; Javascript<\/strong> but is <strong>not fully complete<\/strong> and due to its <strong>limited\u00a0capabilities<\/strong>\u00a0can't be a valid solution to\u00a0replace the C# Client. In addition it's\u00a0<strong>not robust enough<\/strong> to be installed on production.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16807 size-large\" title=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/vsphereclientdiscontinued04-600x355.jpg\" alt=\"vsphereclientdiscontinued04\" width=\"600\" height=\"355\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fling is currently offering the following features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>VM Power Operations (common cases)<\/li>\n<li>VM Edit Settings (simple CPU, Memory, Disk changes)<\/li>\n<li>VM Console<\/li>\n<li>VM and Host Summary pages<\/li>\n<li>VM Migration (only to a Host)<\/li>\n<li>Clone to Template\/VM<\/li>\n<li>Create VM on a Host (limited)<\/li>\n<li>Additional monitoring views (Performance charts, Tasks, Events)<\/li>\n<li>Global Views (Recent tasks, Alarms--view only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fling is <strong>compatible with <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-6-0-ga\/\">vSphere 6.0<\/a> environments and it is deployed as a <strong>OVA file<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0the installation instructions command line-based.<\/p>\n<p>The date or launch timing for the next release of vSphere is not known at this time but we should be prepared to <strong>say goodbye<\/strong> to C# Client.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VMware has just announced that the VMware vSphere C# Client will be discontinued in the next vSphere release leaving the current Web Client the only available tool\u00a0to manage the infrastructure.
