VMware Horizon<\/a>\u00a0is a solution that allows to deliver virtual or hosted desktops and applications through a single platform.<\/p>\n

The upgrade process is pretty straightforward but should be planned carefully<\/strong> to avoid service interruption.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Features introduced in Horizon 7<\/h2>\n

The new version introduces some new features that extend the product functionality.<\/p>\n

Instant Clones<\/strong>\u00a0- allow\u00a0to clone a virtual desktop in memory from an existing running virtual desktop and do not rely on additional components, such as View Composer.<\/p>\n

Smart Policies<\/strong> - the\u00a0administrators have the possibility to enable,\u00a0disable or control some features based on not only who the user is, but on the many different variables available through Horizon: client device, IP address, pool name, etc.<\/p>\n

Blast Extreme<\/strong> - a<\/span>dded the support for the\u00a0new Blast Extreme display technology,\u00a0purpose built and optimized for the mobile cloud.<\/span>\u00a0This technology supports the\u00a0broadest range of client devices that are already\u00a0H.264 capable. Customers can choose between Blast Extreme,\u00a0PCoIP, and RDP.<\/span><\/p>\n

True SSO<\/strong> -\u00a0provides the ability to seamlessly sign onto a virtual desktop a single time using two-factor authentication via Identity Manager or Workspace ONE.<\/p>\n

Cloud Pod Architecture<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0- now scales to support 50,000 sessions across up to 10 sites,\u00a0with 25 pods of infrastructure. <\/span><\/p>\n

Upgrade procedure<\/h2>\n

For\u00a0a safe procedure,\u00a0stop current running pools and provisioning<\/strong>\u00a0and perform the\u00a0upgrade following this order<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

  • Composer Server<\/li>\n
  • Connection Servers<\/li>\n
  • Security Servers (if any)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Upgrade Composer Server<\/h2>\n

    First component to upgrade is the Composer Server<\/strong>. Login to the server and run the installer.<\/p>\n

    The wizard detects an existing installation. Click Next<\/strong> to perform the upgrade.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade04\"<\/p>\n

    Accept the EULA then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Leave default location and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade06\"<\/p>\n

    Specify\u00a0the Data Source Name<\/strong> for the Horizon Composer database by clicking the ODBC DNS Setup<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade07\"<\/p>\n

    Select the correct ODBC\u00a0DNS<\/strong> and click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Enter the ODBC Data Source Administrator<\/strong>\u00a0credentials then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade09\"<\/p>\n

    Leave default SOAP port<\/strong> and specify the SSL Certificate<\/strong> type. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Click Install<\/strong> to proceed with the upgrade.<\/p>\n

    The upgrade is being installed.<\/p>\n

    When the installation has completed, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

    Click Yes<\/strong> to reboot the server.<\/p>\n

    Upgrade Connection Server<\/h2>\n

    Login to\u00a0the Connection Server<\/strong> and run the installer.<\/p>\n

    A previous installation is detected. Click Next<\/strong> to\u00a0continue.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade16\"<\/p>\n

    Accept the EULA then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Click Install<\/strong>\u00a0to begin installation.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade18\"<\/p>\n

    The upgrade is being installed in the system.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade19\"<\/p>\n

    When the installation has completed, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

    From the Connection Server, access the Horizon View Administrator<\/strong> web console and click Edit License<\/strong> to insert the new license.<\/p>\n

    Type the license key then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The\u00a0license has been applied\u00a0successfully.<\/p>\n

    Upgrade View Agent<\/h2>\n

    Login to the\u00a0RDS Host Server<\/strong> and run the View Agent<\/strong> installer.<\/p>\n

    The system detects a previous installation. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

    \"horizonupgrade25\"<\/p>\n

    Accept the EULA then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Select the IP protocol<\/strong> to be used then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Select features required in your environment and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Specify the Horizon Connection Server<\/strong> and the Administrator credentials<\/strong> to register the machine then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Since we are performing an upgrade, the installer detects the agent is already installed. Click OK\u00a0<\/strong>to continue.<\/p>\n

    Click Install<\/strong> to proceed with the upgrade.<\/p>\n

    The upgrade is being installed.<\/p>\n

    When the installation has completed, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

    Click Yes<\/strong> to reboot the RDS Host Server.<\/p>\n

    Access the Management Console<\/h2>\n

    After the upgrade, during the access to the web management console from a client you may experience the issue the system is not able to connect<\/strong> to the Connection Server and the page displays a blank error window<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    To fix the problem, login the Connection Server<\/strong> and locate the setting.properties<\/strong> file in\u00a0C:\\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware View\\Server\\sslgateway\\conf<\/em>. Right click the file and select Open with<\/strong> option choosing the tool\u00a0Notepad<\/strong> as editor.<\/p>\n

    In setting.properties<\/strong> file add the line:<\/p>\n

    Restart the VMware Horizon View Connection Server<\/strong> service.<\/p>\n

    From the client, open the favorite browser and type the Horizon Administrator's\u00a0login page<\/strong>\u00a0address and enter the administrative credentials.\u00a0Click Log In<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Now the access to the Horizon 7 Administrator console is successful.<\/p>\n

    The upgrade procedure is now complete and you can take benefit of the new available features<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
