The\u00a0<strong>UEFI secure boot<\/strong> for guest OS as well as a <strong>simplified user experience<\/strong> enforce the VMware platform introducing some big enhancements in the following areas:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>vCenter Server<\/li>\n<li>vSphere Client<\/li>\n<li>Security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>vCenter Server<\/h2>\n<p>The vCenter Server Appliance introduces several new features with a new modern look and feel. <strong>Linux and Mac are now supported<\/strong> platforms along with Microsoft Windows.\u00a0The vCenter Server Appliance now brings new\u00a0features such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Migration<\/li>\n<li>Improved Appliance Management<\/li>\n<li>VMware Update Manager<\/li>\n<li>Native High Availability<\/li>\n<li>Built-in Backup \/ Restore<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Migration<\/h4>\n<p>Migrating to the vCenter Server Appliance is no longer an issue as the installer has a <strong>built in Migration Tool<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0allows a more granular selection of migrated data:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Configuration<\/li>\n<li>Configuration, events, and tasks<\/li>\n<li>Configuration, events, tasks, and performance metrics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18944 size-large\" title=\"vsphere65announced02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/vsphere65announced02-600x329.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere65announced02\" width=\"600\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared with previous release, <strong>Migrate<\/strong> and <strong>Restore<\/strong>\u00a0have been added enhancing\u00a0the capabilities of the Installer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>VMware Update Manager<\/h4>\n<p>VMware Update Manager (VUM) has been <strong>fully integrated<\/strong> into vCenter Server Appliance. No need to have a separate Windows server for VUM.<\/p>\n<p>During the migration process the vCenter configuration, inventory, and alarm data is <strong>migrated by default<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Improved Appliance Management<\/h4>\n<p>The new release brings an\u00a0improved appliance management capabilities. The GUI now shows network and database statistics, disk space, and health in addition to CPU and memory statistics which reduces the reliance on using a <strong>command line interface<\/strong> for simple monitoring and operational tasks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18945 size-large\" title=\"vsphere65announced03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/vsphere65announced03-600x288.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere65announced03\" width=\"600\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>vCenter Server High Availability<\/h4>\n<p>vCenter Server 6.5 has a new <strong>native high availability solution<\/strong> that consists of Active, Passive, and Witness nodes which are cloned from the existing vCenter Server. Failover within the vCenter HA cluster can occur when an <strong>entire node is lost<\/strong> (host failure for example) or when certain <strong>key services<\/strong> fail.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18946 size-large\" title=\"vsphere65announced04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/vsphere65announced04-600x237.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere65announced04\" width=\"600\" height=\"237\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Backup and Restore<\/h4>\n<p>It's now possible to backup and restore\u00a0vCenter Server 6.5 with its <strong>built-in backup and restore out-of-the-box functionality<\/strong> enabling customers to protect vCenter Server and Platform Services Controller appliances directly from the VAMI or API, and also backs up both VUM and Auto Deploy running embedded with the appliance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>vSphere Web Client<\/h2>\n<p>The version 6.5 is still based on the Adobe Flex platform and requires <strong>Adobe Flash to use<\/strong>. Most significant improvements introduced in the new release are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inventory tree is the default view<\/li>\n<li>Home screen reorganized<\/li>\n<li>Renamed <em>Manage<\/em> tab to <em>Configure<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Removed <em>Related Objects<\/em> tab<\/li>\n<li>Performance improvements, live refresh for power states, tasks, and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18947\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/vsphere65announced05-600x146.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere65announced05\" width=\"600\" height=\"146\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>vSphere Client<\/h2>\n<p>It is available a\u00a0fully supported version of the <strong>HTML5-based<\/strong> vSphere Client with <strong>limited features<\/strong> that will run alongside the vSphere Web Client. The vSphere Client will be reachable via <em>http:\/\/&lt;vcenter_fqdn&gt;\/ui<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the benefits in the new vSphere Client:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean, consistent UI built on VMware\u2019s new Clarity UI standards<\/li>\n<li>Built on HTML5 so it is truly a cross-browser and cross-platform application<\/li>\n<li>No browser plugins to install\/manage<\/li>\n<li>Integrated into vCenter Server for 6.5 and fully supported<\/li>\n<li>Fully supports Enhanced Linked Mode<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18948\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/vsphere65announced06-600x469.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere65announced06\" width=\"600\" height=\"469\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Security enhancements<\/h2>\n<p>With the new release 6.5 it is now possible to <strong>encrypt VMs<\/strong> in order to protect against unauthorized data access. Also <strong>vMotion is now encrypted<\/strong> increasing the security during data at-rest and data in-motion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secure Boot<\/strong> is another feature implemented in this release that prevents the loading of <strong>unauthorized components<\/strong> during startup.
