{"id":19583,"date":"2017-01-18T09:00:26","date_gmt":"2017-01-18T08:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=19583\/"},"modified":"2017-01-16T08:08:02","modified_gmt":"2017-01-16T07:08:02","slug":"vmware-horizon-7-view-event-database-configuration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-7-view-event-database-configuration\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware Horizon 7: View Event Database configuration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19762 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb01.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>VMware Horizon uses the Event Database to <strong>store logs<\/strong>\u00a0about View Manager events instead of storing data\u00a0in a log file that is limited in information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS-SQL and Oracle<\/strong> are the supported databases to store the logs but in small environments the Event Database can be stored also in a\u00a0MS SQL Express edition.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Create the Event Database<\/h2>\n<p>From Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, right click <strong>Databases<\/strong> and select <strong>New Database<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19763 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb02.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb02\" width=\"450\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter the <strong>Database name<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19764 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb03-600x539.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb03\" width=\"600\" height=\"539\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Right click <strong>Logins<\/strong> under <strong>Security<\/strong> and select <strong>New Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19765 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb04.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb04\" width=\"341\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To access the Event Database from Horizon you should create a new user using\u00a0<strong>SQL Server authentication<\/strong>. Specify a <strong>Login name<\/strong> and <strong>Password<\/strong> and disable the <strong>Enforce password policy<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19766 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb05-600x539.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb05\" width=\"600\" height=\"539\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Access the <strong>User Mapping<\/strong> field, map the database and assign the <strong>db_owner<\/strong> role to the new user.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19767 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb06-600x539.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb06\" width=\"600\" height=\"539\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Status<\/strong> field make sure the user is enabled to login. Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19769 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb07-600x539.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb07\" width=\"600\" height=\"539\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new user has been created successfully.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19770 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb08.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb08\" width=\"341\" height=\"589\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Server Properties<\/strong> under <strong>Security<\/strong>, double check that <strong>SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode<\/strong> is enable. Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19771 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb09-600x539.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb09\" width=\"600\" height=\"539\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Configure TCP Port<\/h4>\n<p>To configure the Event Database you need to know the port to connect to.\u00a0Start the SQL Server Configuration Manager and under <strong>SQL Server Network Configuration<\/strong> select <strong>Protocols for SQLEXPRESS<\/strong>. Right click in the right pane the <strong>TCP\/IP<\/strong> protocol and select <strong>Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19772 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb10-600x252.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb10\" width=\"600\" height=\"252\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For all IP addresses set the <strong>TCP\/IP Port<\/strong> with value <strong>1433<\/strong>\u00a0then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19773 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb11.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb11\" width=\"426\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You need to restart the <strong>SQL service<\/strong>\u00a0to make changes active. Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19774 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb12.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb12\" width=\"497\" height=\"172\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>SQL Server Services<\/strong> in the left side then right click <strong>SQL Server (SQLEPXPRESS)<\/strong>. Select <strong>Restart<\/strong> to restart the service.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19775 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb13-600x269.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb13\" width=\"600\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Service is restarted.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19776 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb14.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb14\" width=\"499\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure Event Database in Horizon<\/h2>\n<p>From the Horizon console,\u00a0access the <strong>Event Configuration<\/strong> field and click <strong>Edit<\/strong> in the <strong>Event Database<\/strong> area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19777 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb15-600x514.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb15\" width=\"600\" height=\"514\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify the requested parameters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DNS name or IP address of the Database server<\/li>\n<li>Port<\/li>\n<li>User name using the\u00a0SQL Server Authentication<\/li>\n<li>Password<\/li>\n<li>Table prefix<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to connect the database.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19778 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb16.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb16\" width=\"320\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you receive this error message, it means you have <strong>connection problems<\/strong> with the DB. Make sure <strong>SQL Server authentication<\/strong> option is selected and\u00a0the <strong>Enforce password policy<\/strong> options \u00a0is disabled. Check if\u00a0<strong>TCP Port<\/strong> field is populated with port 1433.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19779 size-full\" title=\"horizon7eventdb17\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb17.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb17\" width=\"400\" height=\"197\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the database is connected, the <strong>connection details<\/strong> are displayed in the Event Database area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19780 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb18\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb18-600x422.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb18\" width=\"600\" height=\"422\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>System Health<\/strong>\u00a0area in the Dashboard shows the connected DB server and all components are now with a\u00a0green icon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19781 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb19\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb19-600x420.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb19\" width=\"600\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The logs are available in <strong>Events<\/strong> under <strong>Monitoring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19791 size-large\" title=\"horizon7eventdb20\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/horizon7eventdb20-600x414.jpg\" alt=\"horizon7eventdb20\" width=\"600\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Event Database makes\u00a0<strong>logs more clear and detailed<\/strong> with a clean view useful especially during troubleshooting.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VMware Horizon uses the Event Database to store logs\u00a0about View Manager events instead of storing data\u00a0in a log file that is limited in information.
