VMware Horizon uses the Event Database to store logs<\/strong>\u00a0about View Manager events instead of storing data\u00a0in a log file that is limited in information.<\/p>\n

MS-SQL and Oracle<\/strong> are the supported databases to store the logs but in small environments the Event Database can be stored also in a\u00a0MS SQL Express edition.<\/p>\n

Create the Event Database<\/h2>\n

From Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, right click Databases<\/strong> and select New Database<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the Database name<\/strong> and click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Right click Logins<\/strong> under Security<\/strong> and select New Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To access the Event Database from Horizon you should create a new user using\u00a0SQL Server authentication<\/strong>. Specify a Login name<\/strong> and Password<\/strong> and disable the Enforce password policy<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

Access the User Mapping<\/strong> field, map the database and assign the db_owner<\/strong> role to the new user.<\/p>\n

In Status<\/strong> field make sure the user is enabled to login. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The new user has been created successfully.<\/p>\n

In Server Properties<\/strong> under Security<\/strong>, double check that SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode<\/strong> is enable. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Configure TCP Port<\/h4>\n

To configure the Event Database you need to know the port to connect to.\u00a0Start the SQL Server Configuration Manager and under SQL Server Network Configuration<\/strong> select Protocols for SQLEXPRESS<\/strong>. Right click in the right pane the TCP\/IP<\/strong> protocol and select Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For all IP addresses set the TCP\/IP Port<\/strong> with value 1433<\/strong>\u00a0then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You need to restart the SQL service<\/strong>\u00a0to make changes active. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select SQL Server Services<\/strong> in the left side then right click SQL Server (SQLEPXPRESS)<\/strong>. Select Restart<\/strong> to restart the service.<\/p>\n

Configure Event Database in Horizon<\/h2>\n

From the Horizon console,\u00a0access the Event Configuration<\/strong> field and click Edit<\/strong> in the Event Database<\/strong> area.<\/p>\n

Specify the requested parameters:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • DNS name or IP address of the Database server<\/li>\n
  • Port<\/li>\n
  • User name using the\u00a0SQL Server Authentication<\/li>\n
  • Password<\/li>\n
  • Table prefix<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Click OK<\/strong> to connect the database.<\/p>\n

    If you receive this error message, it means you have connection problems<\/strong> with the DB. Make sure SQL Server authentication<\/strong> option is selected and\u00a0the Enforce password policy<\/strong> options \u00a0is disabled. Check if\u00a0TCP Port<\/strong> field is populated with port 1433.<\/p>\n

    When the database is connected, the connection details<\/strong> are displayed in the Event Database area.<\/p>\n

    The System Health<\/strong>\u00a0area in the Dashboard shows the connected DB server and all components are now with a\u00a0green icon.<\/p>\n

    The logs are available in Events<\/strong> under Monitoring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The Event Database makes\u00a0logs more clear and detailed<\/strong> with a clean view useful especially during troubleshooting.<\/p>\n
