Altaro released VM Backup 7.0 backup solution introducing the support for Windows Server 2016<\/strong> and the Augmented Inline Deduplication<\/strong> technology.<\/p>\n

New features include also the Boot VM from Backup<\/strong> capability where VMs can now be booted directly from the backup repository\u00a0reducing the service downtime.<\/p>\n

VM Explorer is available as 30-day trial<\/a> and can be downloaded from Altaro's website. A free version<\/strong> is available and support up to two VMs.<\/p>\n

Augmented Inline Deduplication<\/h4>\n

This new feature dramatically improves backup and restore speed<\/strong>\u00a0creating the smallest backup size<\/strong> lowering storage requirements.\u00a0Augmented Inline deduplication runs across all backup jobs<\/strong>, and no need to post processing VMs.\u00a0Efficiency increases as more VM backups are added.<\/p>\n

Enable Deduplication<\/strong><\/p>\n

To activate deduplication, from the Altaro's Dashboard click the setting icon<\/strong> on the right side or access the Advanced Settings<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n

In the Deduplication<\/strong> column, check the VMs you want to enable deduplication then click Save Changes<\/strong>\u00a0at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n

Selected VMs needs a full backup<\/strong> to enable deduplication leaving previous backups available<\/strong> for restore in the Backup Location. Click Proceed<\/strong> to confirm selection.<\/p>\n

When the backup jobs have been completed, in the Dashboard are displayed the stats related to Deduplication & Compression<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Faster compression algorithms<\/h4>\n

New release\u00a0uses now compression algorithms that leverage processors' multithreading and arithmetic<\/strong> abilities to give a boost to the backup speed and drastically lowers the CPU requirements<\/strong> of the backup process.<\/p>\n

Boot VM from Backup<\/h4>\n

VMs can now be booted directly from\u00a0the Backup\u00a0Location<\/strong> without affecting backup integrity. The VM is restored in background<\/strong> to the Hypervisor including\u00a0any new changes made to the booted VM.<\/p>\n

To commit changes you can\u00a0simply switch over to the recovered VM. This feature minimize downtime<\/strong> because there is no need to wait for the entire VM to restore.<\/p>\n

Boot a VM from Backup<\/strong><\/p>\n

From the Dashboard, access the Boot From Backup<\/strong> section and click on Boot a VM from Backup<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n
