{"id":21621,"date":"2017-07-24T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T07:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=21621\/"},"modified":"2020-03-15T18:05:15","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T17:05:15","slug":"altaro-vm-backup-7-5-configure-backup-copy-azure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/altaro-vm-backup-7-5-configure-backup-copy-azure\/","title":{"rendered":"Altaro VM Backup 7.5 configure a Backup Copy to Azure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21622 size-full\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew01.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Altaro released <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/altaro-vm-backup-6-1-installation-pt-1\/\">Altaro VM Backup<\/a>\u00a07.5, the <strong>virtual\u00a0backup solution<\/strong> for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V\u00a0introducing the support for <strong>backup to Azure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Backup to Azure feature is available only in the Altaro VM Backup <strong>Unlimited Plus edition<\/strong>\u00a0and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altaro.com\/vm-backup\/pricing.php#partner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pricing comparison<\/a> can be found in the dedicated Altaro website page.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What's new in version 7.5<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to local disk, network path or an Altaro Offsite Server, Altaro VM Backup can now <strong>store Backup Copy in Azure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21623 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew02-600x564.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew02\" width=\"600\" height=\"564\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>main benefits<\/strong> introduced in version 7.5 are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administrators can use Azure Block Blob storage which is the\u00a0<b>most cost effective Azure storage<\/b>\u00a0option<\/li>\n<li>Backups can be <strong>restored from Azure<\/strong> to different Altaro VM Backup installations<\/li>\n<li>Supports Altaro's <strong>compression, encryption<\/strong> and industry best <strong>deduplication<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>No additional VM<\/strong> has to be deployed in Azure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure a Backup Copy to Azure<\/h2>\n<p>To take a Backup Copy to Azure you need to setup the Azure environment and to configure an <strong>Offsite Backup Location<\/strong> in VM Backup.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Setup Azure environment<\/h4>\n<p>To store backup in Azure, you need to create a <strong>Storage Account<\/strong>.\u00a0To create a storage account, access the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/portal.azure.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Azure portal<\/a>\u00a0and insert your credentials to login.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21624 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew03-600x377.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew03\" width=\"600\" height=\"377\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the Dashboard, click on <strong>New &gt; Storage<\/strong>\u00a0option and select <strong>Storage account - blob, file, table, queue<\/strong> as featured app.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21625 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew04-600x413.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew04\" width=\"600\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter a <strong>Name<\/strong>, specify <strong>General purpose<\/strong> as <strong>Account kind<\/strong> and create a <strong>Resource Group<\/strong>. Select the <strong>Location<\/strong>\u00a0to use then click <strong>Create<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21627 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew05-600x901.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew05\" width=\"600\" height=\"901\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Access the new created Storage Account and select <strong>Access Keys<\/strong> under <strong>Settings<\/strong>. This value is needed by Altaro to access the Azure's storage account.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21633 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew06-600x360.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew06\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Configure Altaro's Offsite Location<\/h4>\n<p>Open the Altaro application and go to <strong>Backup Location<\/strong> tab. In the right side click on\u00a0<strong>Add Offsite Location<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21634 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew07-600x207.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew07\" width=\"600\" height=\"207\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>Cloud Backup to an Azure Storage Account<\/strong> option then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21635 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew08-600x628.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew08\" width=\"600\" height=\"628\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter the <strong>Azure Storage Account connection string<\/strong> and click <strong>Test Connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21640 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew09-600x628.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew09\" width=\"600\" height=\"628\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the test connection is successful, click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21752 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew10-600x664.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew10\" width=\"600\" height=\"664\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new <strong>Azure Offsite Location<\/strong> has been created.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21642 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew11-600x289.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew11\" width=\"600\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Create a Backup Copy to Azure<\/h2>\n<p>To\u00a0create a Backup Copy to Azure, <strong>assign the VMs<\/strong> you want to backup offsite to the just created Azure offsite location.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21643 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew12-600x340.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew12\" width=\"600\" height=\"340\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go to <strong>Take Offsite Copy<\/strong> tab and select the VMs you want to process. Click on <strong>Take Offsite Copy<\/strong> button to start the task. Keep in mind that a <strong>full backup<\/strong> must be available before taking an offsite copy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21644 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew13-600x386.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew13\" width=\"600\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The VMs are processed and copied to Azure.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21645 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew14-600x292.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew14\" width=\"600\" height=\"292\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the size of your VMs, after some minutes the copy task completes showing the result of the process.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21646 size-large\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew15-600x292.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew15\" width=\"600\" height=\"292\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From Azure Dashboard, select <strong>All Resources &gt; <em>Storage Account's name<\/em> &gt;\u00a0Blob Service<\/strong>\u00a0to find the backed up virtual machines.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21647 size-full\" title=\"vmbackup75whatsnew16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/vmbackup75whatsnew16.jpg\" alt=\"vmbackup75whatsnew16\" width=\"540\" height=\"646\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Backup Copy of your VMs are now <strong>stored in Azure<\/strong> and available in case of need.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Altaro released Altaro VM Backup\u00a07.5, the virtual\u00a0backup solution for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V\u00a0introducing the support for backup to Azure.
