Configure Tape Infrastructure<\/h2>\n

Replacing the physical tapes, StarWind Cloud CTL eliminates costly tape backup processes and provides an effortless integration<\/strong> of the cost-efficient Amazon S3 and Glacier object storage requiring no third-party software<\/strong> components to be installed.<\/p>\n

Open Veeam Backup & Replication and go to Tape Infrastructure<\/strong> tab. Click Add Tape Server<\/strong> to add the StarWind VTL device.<\/span><\/p>\n

Click Add New<\/strong> to specify the StarWind Server.<\/p>\n

Type the DNS name or IP address<\/strong> of the StarWind Server then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the credentials to access the Server and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Apply<\/strong>\u00a0to complete the Server configuration.<\/p>\n

Veeam Transport<\/strong> component is being installed in the StarWind Server.<\/p>\n

When the installation has completed, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

Once the Server has been selected, click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Click Apply<\/strong> to install missing components on StarWind Server.<\/p>\n

When the installation has been completed successfully, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard. Enable Start tape Library inventory when I click\u00a0<\/strong>Finish<\/b>\u00a0option in order to discover available tape library devices.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the\u00a0Tape Inventory<\/strong> is finished, the newly added tape library device is displayed with one\u00a0tape drive already loaded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Configure a Backup to Tape Job<\/h2>\n

From Backup & Replication > Home<\/strong> click Tape Job<\/strong> and select Backups<\/strong>\u00a0option.<\/p>\n

Enter a Name<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Add<\/strong> and specify the backup job to process then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Add New<\/strong> to add a new Media Pool.<\/span><\/p>\n

Select Simple media pool<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

Type a Name<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Add<\/strong> and select the existing tape to add to Media Pool. Click OK<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n

When the tape has been added, click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Specify the Media set name<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>. Optionally you can specify the settings for the automatic creation of new media set.<\/p>\n

Specify the Data Retention Policy<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If requested, specify the parallel processing and encryption options then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Finish<\/strong> to create the new Media Pool.<\/p>\n

When the Media pool for full backups<\/strong>\u00a0has been specified, click Next<\/strong> to continue the Backup to Tape Job<\/strong> configuration.<\/p>\n

Enable the Archive incremental backups to tape<\/strong> option then click Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Enable both Media automation options. Export current media set upon job completion<\/strong> allows the automatic tape offload to Amazon S3<\/strong> after backup job is completed. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Specify the job Schedule<\/strong> and click Apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Finish<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n

To start the job immediately, right click the job name just created and select Start<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Backup to Tape job is being processed.<\/p>\n

When the backup has been completed, click OK<\/strong> to close the details window.<\/p>\n

Under Backups<\/strong>, select Tape<\/strong> to check the processed VMs.<\/p>\n

When the job is finished, the\u00a0<\/strong>tape is automatically ejected<\/strong>, exported and\u00a0marked as Offline<\/strong> according to Media automation<\/strong> settings previously configured.<\/span><\/p>\n

Access the AWS portal and go to the S3 Bucket<\/strong> used for VTL. Here you can see the just processed backup.<\/p>\n

The Tape Backup job is now configured making the backup infrastructure compliant with the rule 3-2-1.<\/p>\n
