{"id":22492,"date":"2017-11-15T09:00:54","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T08:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=22492"},"modified":"2020-03-15T18:08:41","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T17:08:41","slug":"veeam-backup-for-microsoft-office-365-1-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-backup-for-microsoft-office-365-1-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 1.5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22536 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-01.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 1.5 is the latest version of the backup solution by Veeam to protect Office 365 mailboxes to ensure <strong>service availability<\/strong> to the users.<\/p>\n<p>In a normal situation, retrieving lost emails requires a ticket submission to Microsoft support, not an ideal solution because the process can be time-consuming causing disruption to <strong>normal business operations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 you can <strong>protect hybrid-cloud email deployments<\/strong> as well as <strong>migrate mailbox data<\/strong> between Office 365 and on-premises Exchange.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22549 size-large\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-02-600x369.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"369\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared to previous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-backup-for-microsoft-office-365-overview\/\">version 1.0<\/a>, the new version 1.5 has some new main features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">Distributed, scalable architecture.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">Backup Proxies support to take the workload off the management server.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">Support for multiple repositories streamlines data backup and restore processes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">Support for backup and restore of on-premises and hybrid Exchange organizations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">Restore of multiple datastore mailboxes using Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">RESTful API and PowerShell cmdlets support.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L1\"><span class=\"List_L1\">Support for backup and restore in Microsoft Azure Germany and China regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Deployment<\/h2>\n<p>Veeam Backup for Office 365 1.5 can be deployed on <strong>physical or virtual Windows machines<\/strong> and supports only 64-bit OSs.\u00a0The product requires at least Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Microsoft Windows 7 SP1.\u00a0Mail backup is supported for <strong>Microsoft Exchange 2016 or 2013<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The software is composed by two applications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Veeam Backup Server<\/strong> - used to backup organization's mailboxes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Veeam Explorer for Exchange<\/strong> - used to restore items from backups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To install the product,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeam.com\/backup-microsoft-office-365.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download<\/a>\u00a0from Veeam's website the software in\u00a0<strong>.ZIP format<\/strong>, extract the two files and run the installer. Shared or resource mailboxes <strong>do not need to be licensed<\/strong>.\u00a0If you do not archive a mailbox for <strong>31 days<\/strong>, its license will be revoked and can be applied to another mailbox.<\/p>\n<p>First thing to do before configuring the system is to to apply the license to enable the product. From Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 select <strong>main menu &gt; License<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22545 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-10.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-10\" width=\"543\" height=\"408\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Install<\/strong> to select the new license file.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22550 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-11.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-11\" width=\"420\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the license file received from Veeam and click <strong>Open<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22547 size-large\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-12-600x422.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-12\" width=\"600\" height=\"422\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the license has been activated, click <strong>Close<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22548 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-13.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-13\" width=\"420\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Configuration<\/h2>\n<p>The configuration of the application is composed by three main steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add Repository and Proxy<\/li>\n<li>Add Organization to protect<\/li>\n<li>Backup job creation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Add Repository and Proxy<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Data transfer<\/strong> from Exchange mailboxes to the backup repository is handled by the Backup Proxy installed by <strong>default on the local host<\/strong>. To offload the Veeam Backup for Office 365 Server, you can add a new Backup Proxy to improve performance.<\/p>\n<p>From the\u00a0<strong>Backup Infrastructure<\/strong>\u00a0tab select <strong>Backup Proxies<\/strong> and click on\u00a0<strong>Add Proxy<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22552 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-14.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-14\" width=\"597\" height=\"553\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify the DNS name or IP address of the <strong>Host<\/strong> and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22553 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-15.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-15\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify the credentials to access the specified server then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22566 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-16.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-16\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The proxy is installed on the specified system.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22574 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-17\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-17.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-17\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the procedure has completed click <strong>Finish<\/strong> and proceed with repository creation\u00a0to be associated with this new proxy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22575 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-18\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-18.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-18\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Add a Repository<\/h4>\n<p>To store backups of your mailboxes,\u00a0Veeam Backup for Office 365 supports the following <strong>repository types<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Local storage of the backup server.<\/li>\n<li>Direct Attached Storage (DAS) connected to the backup server (external USB\/eSATA drives\u00a0and RDM volumes).<\/li>\n<li>Storage Area Network (SAN).<\/li>\n<li>SMB 3.0 share (experimental support). Server\u2019s computer account must have write permissions on the\u00a0network share.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can add more than one repository and it is recommended to plan for a <strong>dedicated storage<\/strong> of your mailbox data archived by Veeam Backup for Office 365.<\/p>\n<p>To add a new repository, from the\u00a0<strong>Backup Infrastructure<\/strong>\u00a0tab select <strong>Backup Repositories<\/strong> and click on\u00a0<strong>Add Repository<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22576 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-19\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-19.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-19\" width=\"564\" height=\"556\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter a name to identify the new repository and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22577 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-20\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-20.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-20\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify the <strong>Backup proxy<\/strong> to use and the <strong>Path<\/strong> of the new repository.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22578 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-21\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-21.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-21\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify the retention policy and click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to complete the Backup Repository creation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22579 size-full\" title=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-22\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/veeam-backup-office365-15-22.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-backup-office365-15-22\" width=\"560\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Adding a new Organization<\/h4>\n<p>To backup your organization's mailboxes, you have to specify the <strong>Organization to protect<\/strong>.
