{"id":23679,"date":"2018-02-28T09:00:34","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T08:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=23679"},"modified":"2020-03-15T18:08:40","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T17:08:40","slug":"new-per-vm-licensing-option-in-veeam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/new-per-vm-licensing-option-in-veeam\/","title":{"rendered":"New per-VM licensing option in Veeam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23680 size-full\" title=\"per-vm-licensing-option-veeam-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/per-vm-licensing-option-veeam-01.jpg\" alt=\"per-vm-licensing-option-veeam-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/top-5-backup-solutions-vmware-hyper-v-veeam-backup-replication\/\">Veeam<\/a> recently changed its products licensing options introducing a new per-VM licensing option based on the <strong>number of virtual machines<\/strong> to protect.<\/p>\n<p>Previously the licensing was based on <strong>per-socket basis<\/strong> giving the user the freedom to protect VMs regardless of the total number.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23681 size-large\" title=\"per-vm-licensing-option-veeam-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/per-vm-licensing-option-veeam-02-600x208.jpg\" alt=\"per-vm-licensing-option-veeam-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In some scenarios the socket-based license was not ideal especially for <strong>SMB and ROBO environments<\/strong> where the number of virtual machines to protect is often very little and end-users had sometimes to license 2 or 4 sockets (depending on the installed nodes) just to protect few VMs.<\/p>\n<p>To keep the offer cost effective, Veeam introduced this new <strong>per-VM license<\/strong> option that allows the end-users to\u00a0select any number of VMs (minimum 5 VMs) which, unlike with per-socket license, you can exceed slightly and there are <strong>1 to 5 year subscription licenses<\/strong> available with significant discounts on a longer subscription, also depending on how you purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Another big benefit of subscription licenses is that they already <strong>include Premium 24\u00d77 support<\/strong> whereas, with perpetual licenses, you need to pay on-going support and maintenance fees every year.<\/p>\n<p>Perpetual licenses are licensed per CPU socket on hosts with virtual machines (VMs) to be backed up, replicated, monitored or reported on.
