To manage a\u00a0StarWind-based infrastructure from a centralized console<\/strong>, StarWind provides a Management Web Console with a full access to your StarWind environment from any HTML5-capable<\/strong> web browser.<\/p>\n

The management via browser makes use of the StarWind Gateway VM<\/strong> that accepts incoming HTTP connections<\/strong> and transforms them into\u00a0RDP sessions<\/strong>\u00a0to target servers.<\/p>\n

Deploy StarWind Gateway VM in vSphere<\/h2>\n

From StarWind website, download the zipped OVF template StarWind Gateway VM<\/a>\u00a0and save it anywhere in your computer. Extract the files from the ZIP file.<\/p>\n

Open the VMware Sphere Web Client, right click the cluster object from the Inventory<\/strong> and select Deploy OVF Template<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Browse<\/strong> to select the two files extracted from the downloaded ZIP file. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter a Name<\/strong> for the VM and the location<\/strong> then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the resource to use and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Install StarWind Web Console feature<\/h2>\n

To be reachable from the Management Web Console, you need to install the StarWind Web Console feature<\/strong>\u00a0to each StarWind VSAN server you want to manage.<\/p>\n

Run the StarWind VSAN installer and click Next<\/strong> after accepting the EULA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From the Components<\/strong> list, select the Configure user account for Web-access to Management Console<\/strong> option then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Go through next steps and complete the installation of the StarWind VSAN server.<\/p>\n

Configure the StarWind appliance<\/h2>\n

By default, the StarWind Gateway VM is configured to receive an automatic IP address via DHCP<\/strong>. Before powering on the Gateway VM, the creation of a DHCP reservation<\/strong> is recommended to assign a static IP address to the appliance to simplify the connection. Make sure you configure also a DNS resolving<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Creating a DHCP reservation<\/h4>\n

To create a DHCP reservation, we need to get the MAC address<\/strong> of the appliance's NIC. From the vSphere Web Client right click the virtual machine and select Edit Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From Virtual Hardware<\/strong> tab, expand Network Adapter 1<\/strong> and write down the MAC Address<\/strong> value.<\/p>\n

Access the configuration of your DHCP Server<\/strong> (Windows version in the example) and create a New Reservation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter a Reservation name<\/strong>, the IP address<\/strong> to assign and the MAC address<\/strong>\u00a0of the StarWind appliance's NIC. Click Add<\/strong> when done.<\/p>\n

Creating a DNS entry<\/h4>\n

Now access the configuration of your DNS Server<\/strong> (Windows version in the example) and create a\u00a0New Host<\/strong>\u00a0(A record). Enter the Name<\/strong> and the IP address<\/strong> then click Add Host<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Configure the StarWind Gateway VM<\/h2>\n

When the DHCP reservation and DNS entry have been configured, power on the VM<\/strong>. Right click the VM and select Power > Power On<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Check if the assigned IP Address reported in the vSphere Web Client\u00a0matches your DHCP configuration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From your favorite browser and enter the DNS name of the appliance to open the StarWind Management Web Console. Enter the default credentials <\/strong>and click Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The system establishes the connection with the appliance.<\/p>\n

Press ALT+CTRL+SHIFT<\/strong> combination to access the Settings pop up menu. Click the user's icon and select Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Go to\u00a0Connections<\/strong>\u00a0tab and click StarWind Web Console<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the Hostname<\/strong> field type the IP address of target server then click Save<\/strong>. By default the system uses port 3389<\/strong> for RDP, specify the correct\u00a0Port<\/strong>\u00a0value if you have configured a custom RDP port instead.

The system connects the configured server.\u00a0Click Add Server<\/strong> to add StarWind servers to Management Web Console.<\/p>\n

Enter the IP address or DNS name of the Host<\/strong> then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Right click the discovered server and select\u00a0Connect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The configuration of target server<\/strong> is displayed. Note this is same view you have while opening the console directly from the StarWind VSAN server.<\/p>\n

You can add all your StarWind environment components and manage them from a\u00a0centralized web console<\/strong>. In the example, the web console is configured to manage servers for StarWind VSAN<\/a> and VTL<\/a> services.<\/p>\n
