To enable the installed\u00a0Realtek NICs we need to <strong>inject the drivers<\/strong>\u00a0to the ESXi 6.5 host.<\/p>\n<p>To check if all installed NICs have been enabled, from the VMware Host Client select\u00a0<strong>Networking<\/strong> and navigate to\u00a0<strong>Physical NICs<\/strong> tab. In the example, the Realtek NIC installed in the host is not listed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23961 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-02-600x177.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Enable Realtek NICs<\/h2>\n<p>To enable Realtek NIC in the hypervisor, you need to SSH the ESXi and install the <strong>missing drivers<\/strong>. In <strong>Navigator<\/strong> view, right click <strong>Manage<\/strong> and select <strong>Host &gt; Enable Secure Shell (SSH)<\/strong> option to enable SSH in the host.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23962 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-03-600x407.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>SSH the host<\/strong>\u00a0using a client like PuTTY and enter the <em>root<\/em> credentials.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23963 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-04-600x243.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Run the following command to get a <strong>list of installed NICs<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># lspci -v | grep -A1 -i ethernet<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23964 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-05-600x197.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"197\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Realtek NIC is detected.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/vibsdepot.v-front.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">V-Front Online Depot<\/a> has a <strong>package named net51-drivers<\/strong> that includes the original VMware net-r8168, net-r8169, net-sky2 and net-s2io drivers. Before installing these drivers from the V-Front Online Depot, you must <strong>allow ESXi to use Community Supported VIBs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Run the following command to <strong>change the host acceptance level<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli software acceptance set --level=CommunitySupported<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23965 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-06-600x59.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"59\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Install the driver<\/strong> for the Realtek NICs:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli software vib install -n net51-drivers -d https:\/\/vibsdepot.v-front.de<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23966 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-07-600x169.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"169\" \/><br \/>\nWhen the installation has completed, <strong>reboot the host<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># reboot<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23967 size-large\" title=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-08-600x42.jpg\" alt=\"esxi-6-5-enable-realtek-nics-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"42\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the host has booted, from the VMware Host Client select\u00a0<strong>Networking<\/strong> and navigate to\u00a0<strong>Physical NICs<\/strong> tab.
