{"id":24325,"date":"2018-04-18T09:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T07:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=24325"},"modified":"2023-07-16T11:30:31","modified_gmt":"2023-07-16T09:30:31","slug":"vmware-vsphere-6-7-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-6-7-released\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware vSphere 6.7 what's new"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24326 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-01.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>VMware, the industry-leading virtualization and cloud platform, released the new vSphere 6.7 introducing several new features and enhancements that enforce its role as leader in the virtualization market.<\/p>\n<p>The new version supports <strong>upgrades and migrations<\/strong> from vSphere 6.0 or 6.5 only.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Currently supported migration paths to version 6.7:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>vSphere 6.0 &gt; 6.7<\/li>\n<li>vSphere 6.5 &gt; 6.7<\/li>\n<li>vSphere 5.5 &gt; 6.7 NOT supported<\/li>\n<li>If your environment is running\u00a0<strong>version 5.5<\/strong>, to successfully upgrade to 6.7 you have to migrate at least to version 6.0 then to 6.7.<\/li>\n<li>Before upgrading the vCenter Server in a <strong>mixed environment<\/strong> with vCenter Server running 6.0 or 6.5 managing ESXi hosts 5.5, you have to upgrade the hosts to <strong>at least version 6.0<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What's new in vSphere 6.7<\/h2>\n<p>The new release comes with several new features and enhancements, let's see the most important features introduced.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>vSphere Client (HTML-5)<\/h4>\n<p>Also in this release the HTML 5 client is not fully working but has now the <strong>95% feature complete<\/strong>. Client's performance have been improved providing a more intuitive look.\u00a0The Web Client has now the Platform Services Controller part for an easier management.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24327 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-02-600x337.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>New workflows have been added in version 6.7:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>vSphere Update Manager<\/li>\n<li>Content Library<\/li>\n<li>vSAN<\/li>\n<li>Storage Policies<\/li>\n<li>Host Profiles<\/li>\n<li>vDS Topology Diagram<\/li>\n<li>Licensing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Improved vSphere Appliance Management Interface (VAMI)<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-6-5-announced\/\">VAMI<\/a> interface has been improved with <strong>new features and tabs<\/strong> mainly focused on monitoring and troubleshooting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the <strong>Monitoring<\/strong> tab there is now the possibility to see all the disk partitions for the vCSA, space available and utilization.\u00a0Better visibility to CPU, memory, network, and database utilization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24330 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-03-600x310.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Services<\/strong> status, startup type, and health are now visible in the VAMI. Services can be started, stopped, and restarted directly from the VAMI if needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Syslog<\/strong> forwards supported are now three. Previously only one forwarding was supported.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Update<\/strong> section has been improved providing a more flexibility in selecting patches and updates providing the option to <strong>stage or stage and install<\/strong> a patch or update from the VAMI. Are now available more information\u00a0<span class=\"hardreadability\"><span data-offset-key=\"8rk2u-3-0\">about what\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"passivevoice\"><span data-offset-key=\"8rk2u-4-0\">is included\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for each patch or update as well as type, severity, and if a reboot is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24336 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-04-600x295.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Improved vCenter backup management<\/h4>\n<p>File-based backup was introduced in version 6.5 and now has been improved with new features such as the <strong>native scheduler<\/strong> included in the UI with the\u00a0<strong>retention option<\/strong> available.\u00a0Completed and failed <strong>backup jobs are now logged<\/strong> with detailed information.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24337 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-05-600x512.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The File-based restore is now provided with a browser that <strong>displays all your backups<\/strong> simplifying the restore process. You no longer need to know the entire path.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Enhanced vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA)<\/h4>\n<p>With the new APIs introduced in vSphere 6.7, you can now deploy multiple vCenters <strong>based on a template<\/strong> making the management of vCenter Server Appliance easier. Now also the embedded Platform Services Controller topology <strong>supports the enhanced linked mode<\/strong>, enabling administrators to link multiple vCenters and have seamless visibility across the environment without the need for an external PSC or load balancers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24338 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-06-600x413.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Performances in the vCSA 6.7 have been improved dramatically:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2X<\/strong>\u00a0faster performance in vCenter operations per second<\/li>\n<li><strong>3X<\/strong>\u00a0reduction in memory usage<\/li>\n<li><strong>3X<\/strong>\u00a0faster DRS-related operations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Platform Services Controller UI<\/h4>\n<p>The vSphere Client has now <strong>all PSC functionality<\/strong> located under the <strong>Administration<\/strong> menu. There is a dedicated tab for Certificate management<span class=\"hardreadability\"><span data-offset-key=\"3e3ss-1-0\">\u00a0and all other PSC management is under the <strong>Configuration<\/strong> tab<\/span><\/span><span data-offset-key=\"3e3ss-2-0\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24339 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-07-600x338.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>ESXi single reboot<\/h4>\n<p>In vSphere 6.7 the upgrade process of ESXi hosts has been improved by <strong>eliminating one of two reboots<\/strong> normally required for major version upgrades reducing maintenance time. The upgrade from version 6.5 to 6.7 will benefit of the new feature.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>ESXi quick boot<\/h4>\n<p>For the hardware that supports this new feature, the hypervisor can be restarted without going through the <strong>physical hardware reboot process<\/strong>. Currently only a limited number of servers are supported but the number will be increased. This feature works not only for reboots but also for upgrades. The system creates a <strong>second ESXi memory image<\/strong> and when the host is rebooted it doesn't perform a full reboot but it switches over to the latest instead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24341 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-6-7-released-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vsphere-6-7-released-08-600x379.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-6-7-released-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"379\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Other features<\/h4>\n<p>Other intersting features are included in vSphere 6.7, such as\u00a0an improved <strong>DRS initial placement<\/strong>, <strong>vSphere Persistent Memory<\/strong> and so on.
