Once the Veeam Availability Orchestrator<\/a>\u00a0(VAO) has been installed in your DR site, you need to create a Failover Plan for the replicated machines to ensure DR plan is actually working as expected.<\/p>\n

One of the big benefit provided by VAO is the reporting and documentation available and created automatically and always up-to-date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Create a Failover Plan<\/h2>\n

Using your preferred browser, type the following address to login to VAO\u00a0https:\/\/IP_address: 9898<\/em>. Enter the credentials and click Log in<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Go to Failover Plans<\/strong> tab and select from main menu Manage > New<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter a Plan Name<\/strong> and optionally provide other information. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select from the Available Groups<\/strong> list the groups that contains the VMs to assign to the Failover Plan then click on\u00a0Add<\/strong> button. Click Next<\/strong> when done.<\/p>\n

Depending on your environment specify the VM Recovery Options<\/strong> that meet the requirements and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select Available Steps<\/strong> to perform and click Add<\/strong>. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Virtual machines can be protected after failover but\u00a0 you must have enough license to perform this step. You can skip this step and click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Specify the Template<\/strong> to use and the Document Format<\/strong>. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the scheduling for automatic plan reporting and cick Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Finish<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n

The new Failover Plan has been created successfully.<\/p>\n

Run the Failover Plan<\/h2>\n

Once the plan has been created, you should test it in order to verify that everything works as expected. From the Failover Plans<\/strong> tab, select the plan to run and click from the menu Launch > Run<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the correct Password<\/strong> to execute the plan and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the Restore Point<\/strong> to use and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Finish<\/strong> to execute the selected Failover Plan.<\/p>\n

Looking at the Veeam Backup Server, the Failover Plan is being performed.<\/p>\n

Looking at the active replicas, you can see the VMs included in the Failover Plan in Failover status<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When the Plan State is displayed as Failover<\/strong>, you can display all available reports and documents by\u00a0 clicking\u00a0View Reports > All<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From the list, double click the document to open.<\/p>\n

In the Dashboard<\/strong> you can have a global overview of the executed plans status.<\/p>\n

Permanent Failover or Failback to Production<\/h2>\n

Once the virtual machines replicas member of the executed Failover Plan are active, you can decide to keep replicas as permanent failover or failback to production.<\/p>\n

Select the active Plan and select Launch > Run<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the Site Administrator's password and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
