{"id":24969,"date":"2018-07-10T09:00:09","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T07:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=24969"},"modified":"2020-03-15T18:08:38","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T17:08:38","slug":"veeam-backup-and-replication-9-5-update-3a-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-backup-and-replication-9-5-update-3a-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 Update 3a now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24975 size-full\" title=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-01.jpg\" alt=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Veeam released the new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/new-per-vm-licensing-option-in-veeam\/\">Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5<\/a> Update 3a introducing some enhancements, such as the support for VMware vSphere 6.7, and bug fixes.<\/p>\n<p>After the release of latest <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-6-7-released\/\">VMware vSphere 6.7<\/a> version, most backup software vendors are introducing the support for the new vSphere release in their backup solutions. <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-availability-orchestrator-setup-pt-1\/\">Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5<\/a> Update 3a introduces also some performance improvements concerning <strong>DirectSAN<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Hot Add<\/strong>\u00a0transport modes as well as\u00a0the support for some platforms.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What's new<\/h2>\n<p>The new Update 3a introduces the following most significant enhancements:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>VMware vSphere 6.7 support<\/h4>\n<p>The support for VMware vSphere 6.7 is the main feature added to this new release and includes also the new <strong>Veeam HTML5 plugin<\/strong> version for vSphere Web Client. Added the <strong>asynchronous NBD\/NBDSSL support<\/strong> for improved read performance of network transport mode with ESXi 6.7.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24977 size-large\" title=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-02-600x499.jpg\" alt=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"499\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Platform support<\/h4>\n<p>The support for the following platforms have been introduced in <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-backup-replication-9-5-protection-groups\/\">Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5<\/a> Update 3a as reported in the Release Notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>VMware vSphere 6.5 U2<\/strong> - just a preliminary support since there is a known issue a critical API for Veeam use failing under load<\/li>\n<li><strong>VMware vCloud Director 9.1<\/strong> - full compatibility for all existing vCloud Director integration functionality<\/li>\n<li><strong>VMware Cloud on AWS version 1.3<\/strong>\u00a0- virtual machines with dynamic disks are now supported<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Windows 10 April 2018 Update<\/strong> -\u00a0support as guest virtual machines and for installation of Veeam components<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Windows Server 1803<\/strong> -\u00a0support as guest virtual machines, for installation of Veeam remote components, and as a domain controller for Veeam Explorer for\u00a0Microsoft Active Directory<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Windows Server Hyper-V 1803<\/strong> -\u00a0support as a hypervisor host, and for processing VMs with virtual hardware version 8.3<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 1801<\/strong> -\u00a0support as a source for Microsoft Hyper-V VMs backup jobs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Microsoft Azure<\/h4>\n<p>Update 3a introduces the support for <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-9-5-direct-restore-to-azure-setup-the-infrastructure-pt1\/\">Direct Restore to\u00a0Microsoft Azure<\/a>\u00a0for environments with <strong>ExpressRoute<\/strong> or <strong>site-to-site VPN connectivity<\/strong> to Azure. To enable this feature, you have to create in the Windows Registry the following entry:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Key type<\/strong>: DWORD<br \/>\n<strong>Name<\/strong>:\u00a0AzurePreferPrivateIpAddressesForProxyandLinuxAppliance<br \/>\n<strong>Value<\/strong>: 1<br \/>\n<strong>Path<\/strong>:\u00a0HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Veeam\\Veeam Backup and Replication<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24978 size-large\" title=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-03-600x208.jpg\" alt=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Linux File Level Recovery<\/h4>\n<p>Added the suport for <strong>Btrfs volumes<\/strong> located on an LVM volume and for <strong>Linux SUID and SGID<\/strong> preservation to <em>Copy To<\/em> operation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Tape<\/h4>\n<p>Performance of <strong>enumeration in File to Tape jobs<\/strong> with a large number of files has been improved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Microsoft SQL Server<\/h4>\n<p>To improve security, with the Update 3a the\u00a0<strong>application-aware processing logic<\/strong>\u00a0now requires the\u00a0<strong>logon as batch job<\/strong>\u00a0rights\u00a0(instead of interactive logon) configured for the account\u00a0used to connect to SQL Server to perform transaction logs processing. This change requires to disable the\u00a0<strong>Deny log on as a batch job<\/strong>\u00a0for the used account (previously\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Deny log on locally<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Deny log on through Terminal Services<\/strong>\u00a0permissions were turned off).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Upgrade to version 9.5 Update 3a<\/h2>\n<p>Before proceeding with the update, make sure <strong>you are running version<\/strong> 9.5.0.580, 9.5.0.711, 9.5.0.802, 9.5.0.823, 9.5.0.1038, 9.5.0.1335 or 9.5.0.1536.\u00a0You can check current installed version\u00a0under\u00a0<b>Help &gt; About<\/b> menu.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24979 size-full\" title=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-04.jpg\" alt=\"veaam-backup-replication-9-5-update-3a-04\" width=\"450\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To proceed with the update, disable all active processes\u00a0run the Update 3a installer downloaded from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeam.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Veeam website<\/a>.
