Click <strong>Menu<\/strong> and select <strong>Update Manager<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35318 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-03-600x579.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"579\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the Update Manager area, select the <strong>ESXi images<\/strong> section and click <strong>Import<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35321 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-04-600x267.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Browse<\/strong>\u00a0button to select the ESXi 6.7 installer in\u00a0<strong>ISO format<\/strong>\u00a0downloaded from <a href=\"https:\/\/my.vmware.com\/web\/vmware\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VMware website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35323 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-05-600x334.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Selected the correct image version, click <strong>Import<\/strong> to import the image in the vCSA.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35326 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-06-600x334.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the installer has been imported successfully, click <strong>New Baseline<\/strong> to create the baseline to apply to the hosts you need to upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35328 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-07-600x241.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"241\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify a <strong>Name<\/strong> and a <strong>Description<\/strong> to better identify the scope of the baseline. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35330 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-08-600x198.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the previously <strong>imported ESXi image<\/strong> and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35332 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-09-600x198.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-09\" width=\"600\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to create the baseline.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35334 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-10-600x198.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-10\" width=\"600\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Baselines<\/strong> section is now listed the new created baseline .<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35336 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-11-600x268.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-11\" width=\"600\" height=\"268\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Attach the baseline<\/h4>\n<p>Created the baseline needed to upgrade the hosts, you have to attach this baseline to all ESXi you want to upgrade. Select the cluster with the hosts to process and go to <strong>Updates<\/strong> section. Click <strong>Attach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35338 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-12-600x323.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-12\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the correct baseline to attach and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35340 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-13.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-13\" width=\"576\" height=\"498\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Check Compliance<\/strong> to verify hosts to upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35342 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-14-600x440.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-14\" width=\"600\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Remediate hosts<\/h4>\n<p>Since the host upgrade cannot be staged, click <strong>Remediate<\/strong> to proceed with the upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35344 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-15-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-15\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The installation process begins. Accept the EULA and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35346 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-16-600x461.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-16\" width=\"600\" height=\"461\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the ESXi hosts to upgrade and click <strong>OK<\/strong>. You can safely proceed even if you have <strong>vSAN cluster<\/strong> configured in place.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35348 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-17\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-17-600x296.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-17\" width=\"600\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The upgrade is being processed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35350 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-18\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-18-600x140.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-18\" width=\"600\" height=\"140\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the upgrade has completed successfully, all hosts are reported as <strong>Compliant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35352 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-19\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-19-600x256.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-19\" width=\"600\" height=\"256\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n<p>After upgrading the first host, the vCSA was <strong>unable to reconnect<\/strong> the processed host displaying an error related to the\u00a0<strong>Enhanced vMotion Compatibility mode<\/strong>. Not sure why this error, maybe Spectre\/Meltdown CPU microcode fixes somehow may have affected the EVC cluster.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35356 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-20\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-20.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-20\" width=\"315\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A work around used to continue with upgrade was <strong>disabling the VMware EVC<\/strong> feature in the processed cluster and renabling it after connecting all upgraded ESXi hosts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35358 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-21\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-21-600x223.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-21\" width=\"600\" height=\"223\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Disabled the VMware EVC feature, right click the failed host and select <strong>Connection &gt; Connect<\/strong>. This time the host was connected successfully to the cluster.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35360 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-22\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-22-600x378.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-22\" width=\"600\" height=\"378\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When all upgraded hosts are connected to the cluster,<strong> enable the vSphere EVC<\/strong> feature once again.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35362 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-23\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-23-600x418.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-23\" width=\"600\" height=\"418\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ESXi hosts upgrade procedure is now complete. If you have a vSAN cluster configured, the cluster's <strong>Summary<\/strong> section reports warnings related to <strong>vSAN<\/strong>\u00a0since vSphere 6.7 comes with the new <strong>vSAN 6.6 version<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35364 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-24\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-24-600x284.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-67-upgrade-esxi-24\" width=\"600\" height=\"284\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Final step of the overall upgrade procedure consists in the upgrade of the vSAN cluster if configured. <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vsphere-6-7-upgrade-vsan-6-6-to-6-7-pt-4\/\">Part 4<\/a> will cover <strong>vSAN upgrade<\/strong> to finalize the migration to the new version.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After upgrading the vCSA, to take benefit of new features provided by vSphere 6.7 you have to upgrade also all ESXi hosts installed in your virtual infrastructure.
