{"id":35201,"date":"2018-09-24T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T07:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=35201"},"modified":"2023-07-16T11:22:02","modified_gmt":"2023-07-16T09:22:02","slug":"vsphere-5-5-end-of-general-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vsphere-5-5-end-of-general-support\/","title":{"rendered":"vSphere 5.5 End of General Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35206 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-5-5-end-general-support-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/vsphere-5-5-end-general-support-01.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-5-5-end-general-support-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On <strong>September 19, 2018<\/strong> VMware\u00a0officially closed\u00a0the general support for VMware vSphere 5.5 and customers running version 5.5 should <strong>plan an upgrade<\/strong> of their infrastructure asap.<\/p>\n<p>Although there is the option to purchase an <strong>extended support<\/strong> for up to two years for those that are still running vSphere 5.5, VMware strongly\u00a0<strong>recommends the upgrade<\/strong> to version 6.5.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Currently you have the option to perform a direct upgrade\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vcsa-6-0-to-6-5-upgrade-deploy-vcsa-pt-1\/\">from version 5.5 to 6.5<\/a>\u00a0since the upgrade to <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-6-7-released\/\">version 6.7<\/a> is only supported from version 6.0 or later. Upgrading to version 6.5 not only is the recommended action, but administrators can take benefit of the new interesting features provided.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35213 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-5-5-end-general-support-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/vsphere-5-5-end-general-support-02-600x107.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-5-5-end-general-support-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"107\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Upgrade to <strong>version 6.0 is not recommended<\/strong> due to the upcoming expiring support (<strong>March 12, 2020<\/strong>) and some technical issues.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/mastering-vmware-vsphere-6-5-book-2\/\">VMware vSphere 6.5<\/a> is more stable and the general support is available until\u00a0<strong>November 15, 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Running a not supported version in your environment means that <strong>patches and bug fixes<\/strong> won't be released any longer exposing your infrastructure to possible services disruption due to technical reasons or possible unauthorized accesses to your data due to bug such as Spectre or <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/l1-terminal-fault-l1tf-vulnerability-vsphere-patches-available\/\">L1TF<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before upgrading your infrastructure, consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/content\/dam\/digitalmarketing\/vmware\/en\/pdf\/support\/product-lifecycle-matrix.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lifecycle Product Matrix<\/a> to know the support expiration dates.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On September 19, 2018 VMware\u00a0officially closed\u00a0the general support for VMware vSphere 5.5 and customers running version 5.5 should plan an upgrade of their infrastructure asap.
