What's new in\u00a0Nakivo Backup & Replication\u00a08.1 beta<\/h2>\n

The beta version 8.1 comes with three main new features that make the backup management simpler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Policy-based data protection<\/h4>\n

This new cool feature introduced in version 8.1 allows to create a policy with specific criteria<\/strong> and all the VMs that match the specified criteria are automatically protected.\u00a0Policy-based data protection can be applied to backup, replication, and copy jobs. When the search criteria have been entered in the specific job, all matching items<\/strong> are automatically included in the job. VMware tag, VM name, VM location and Size of VM<\/strong> are just some of the parameters that can be used to define a policy.<\/p>\n

This capability add flexibility and save time<\/strong> since you no longer need to edit the backup job each time to add a new VM.<\/p>\n

Universal Object Recovery<\/h4>\n

The new version provides the Universal Object Recovery feature that allows to recover deleted or modified objects in your infrastructure<\/strong>. VM disks can be mounted from the backup to a VM and the required data can be recovered to production using native application management tools (databases for example).<\/p>\n

SSL certificate installation<\/h4>\n

An SSL certificate can now be installed in\u00a0Nakivo Backup & Replication to allow secure connections<\/strong> using the https<\/em> protocol.<\/p>\n

Create a Policy-based backup job<\/h2>\n

From Nakivo main's dashboard, select\u00a0Create\u00a0> VMware vSphere backup job<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click on the View<\/strong> drop-down menu and select Policy<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

There are several parameters available that can be used as search criteria<\/strong>. Select for example VM name<\/strong>\u00a0from the\u00a0Search by<\/strong>\u00a0drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

If you want to backup all the Windows-based virtual machines installed in your infrastructure for example, you can configure the policy<\/strong> to filter the virtual machines which have a specific suffix in the name (w12r2<\/em> in the example). The system will\u00a0automatically select and displays<\/strong> all the VMs that match this criteria. Click on\u00a0Add another rule<\/strong>\u00a0link to specify an additional criteria.<\/p>\n

If you want to use vSphere\u00a0tags<\/strong> assigned to VMs, select VM tag<\/strong> from the Search by<\/strong> field drop-down menu and specify the value of the tag. The system displays only the VMs that match the specified criteria and it will\u00a0include the VMs in the backup job<\/strong>. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The correct vSphere tag value can be found in the vSphere Client's\u00a0Tags widget<\/strong>\u00a0located in the virtual machine\u00a0Summary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the backup repository to use and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Define a Schedule<\/strong> for the backup job and click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Specify the desired Retention<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the backup Job name<\/strong> then click Finish & Run<\/strong> to execute the job immediately. Select Run for all VMs<\/strong> then click Run<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The backup job is being performed.<\/p>\n

After some minutes, the backup job completes successfully processing all the VMs that match<\/strong> the specified criteria in the policy.<\/p>\n

This feature is extremely useful and allows to save time<\/strong> when you have several VMs to protect since you don't need to edit<\/strong> the backup job anymore to add new VMs. If the VM to backup match the criteria specified in the policy, the VM is automatically included in the backup job.<\/p>\n
