{"id":38772,"date":"2019-06-18T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=38772"},"modified":"2020-03-21T14:40:59","modified_gmt":"2020-03-21T13:40:59","slug":"nakivo-replication-from-backup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/nakivo-replication-from-backup\/","title":{"rendered":"Nakivo: Replication from Backup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38778 size-full\" title=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nakivo-replication-from-backup-01.jpg\" alt=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Latest <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/nakivo-backup-and-replication-8-5-with-nutanix-ahv-support\/\">Nakivo Backup &amp; Replication 8.5<\/a> provides a new feature called <em>Replication from Backup<\/em> that allows to <strong>reduce the snapshot overhead<\/strong> optimizing resources and time.<\/p>\n<p>When backup and replication processes take place, both <strong>need to create a snapshot<\/strong> of the virtual machine to protect consuming production network and compute resources.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How Replication from Backup works<\/h2>\n<p>When the backup and replication jobs are executed on the same VM, the software creates <strong>two independent snapshots<\/strong> using compute resources, network bandwidth affecting the application performance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38780 size-full\" title=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nakivo-replication-from-backup-02.jpg\" alt=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"99\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the configuration of the replication job, the <em>Replication from Backup<\/em> feature allows the administrators to <strong>limit the required snapshots<\/strong>\u00a0to create using as source virtual machine the data stored in the repository. These\u00a0<strong>data are then injected<\/strong>\u00a0in the replica.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38782 size-large\" title=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nakivo-replication-from-backup-03-600x208.jpg\" alt=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In large environments this solution <strong>saves time and resources<\/strong> limiting the load on the production network. Using the backup as source data for the replication, the production network is used during the <strong>backup process only<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Replication jobs can be configured to be executed on a specific schedule or <strong>triggered from backup<\/strong> automatically.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure a Replication from Backup job<\/h2>\n<p>In the Nakivo's dashboard, select <strong>Create &gt; VMware vSphere replication job<\/strong> from main menu.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38789 size-large\" title=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/nakivo-replication-from-backup-04-600x491.jpg\" alt=\"nakivo-replication-from-backup-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Source<\/strong> tab of the New Replication Job Wizard, select the <strong>Backup Repositories<\/strong> option from the <strong>View<\/strong> drop-down menu.
