{"id":41367,"date":"2019-12-10T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=41367"},"modified":"2023-04-12T10:50:24","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T08:50:24","slug":"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure\/","title":{"rendered":"vSphere Replication: upgrade procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41374 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-01.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the release of <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vsphere-replication-8-x-deployment-pt-1\/\">vSphere Replication<\/a> 8.2 from VMware, old installations should be upgraded in order to take benefit of new available features.<\/p>\n<p>The procedure is pretty simple and requires only a <strong>minimal downtime<\/strong> of the appliance.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"title sectiontitle\"><span id=\"GUID-30083484-FB13-485E-AEC9-0695EADB7B3D__d7e1231\" class=\"ph productname\">vSphere Replication<\/span> upgrade path<\/h2>\n<p>vSphere Replication can be upgraded in different ways depending on the installed and the upgrade version:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ISO file<\/strong> - used to upgrade vSphere Replication to a major version (i.e. from 6.5.1 or 8.1 to 8.2)<\/li>\n<li id=\"GUID-30083484-FB13-485E-AEC9-0695EADB7B3D__d7e1241\" class=\"p\"><strong>VAMI, Update Manager, ISO file<\/strong> - used to install an update release (i.e. from 8.1 to 8.2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To follow the <strong>correct upgrade path<\/strong>, check out the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.vmware.com\/en\/vSphere-Replication\/8.2\/rn\/vsphere-replication-compat-matrix-8-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Compatibility Matrices for vSphere Replication 8.2<\/a>. <strong>VAMI or vSphere Update Manager<\/strong> cannot be used to upgrade vSphere Replication from 6.5.1 to 8.2 version.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Upgrade the appliance using the ISO file<\/h2>\n<p>Download from VMware website the latest vSphere Replication Appliance version (currently 8.2.0.2) in <strong>ISO format<\/strong> and save it to a <strong>datastore reacheable from your hosts<\/strong>. Although the used version in the example is the 8.2.0.1, the procedure is exactely the same.<\/p>\n<p>From vSphere Client, right click the vSphere Replication Appliance and select <strong>Edit Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41376 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-02-600x411.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>CD\/DVD drive 1<\/strong> section select the <strong>Datastore ISO file<\/strong> option from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41378 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-03-600x501.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"501\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the folder where the ISO file was uploaded and select the file. Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41380 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-04-600x408.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"408\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flag the <strong>Connected<\/strong> option in order to make the ISO file available to the vSphere Replication Appliance. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41382 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-05-600x501.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"501\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From your favorite browser, type the address to access the\u00a0<strong>Management Console<\/strong>\u00a0in the format <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">https:\/\/IP_vSphere_Replication:5480<\/span>. Enter the correct credentials and click <strong>Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41384 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-06-600x158.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"158\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go to <strong>Update<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Settings<\/strong> section. Under <strong>Update Repository<\/strong> area select the option <strong>Use CDROM Updates<\/strong> in order to pick the updates from the ISO file. You can use the <strong>Use Default Repository<\/strong> option for minor updates instead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41386 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-07-600x395.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From <strong>Update<\/strong> tab access the <strong>Status<\/strong> area and click on <strong>Check Updates<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41388 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-08-600x225.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When a new available version is detected, click <strong>Install Updates<\/strong> to proceed with the upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41390 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-09-600x244.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-09\" width=\"600\" height=\"244\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41392 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-10.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-10\" width=\"270\" height=\"121\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The appliance is being updated.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41394 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-11.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-11\" width=\"500\" height=\"101\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the upgrade has been installed, you need to reboot the appliance to apply new settings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41396 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-12-600x239.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-12\" width=\"600\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go to <strong>System &gt; Information<\/strong> section and click <strong>Reboot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41398 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-13-600x188.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-13\" width=\"600\" height=\"188\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Reboot<\/strong> to confirm the action.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41400 size-full\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-14.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-14\" width=\"413\" height=\"121\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the appliance has been rebooted, login once again.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41402 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-15-600x158.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-15\" width=\"600\" height=\"158\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go to <strong>System &gt; Information<\/strong> section and check the installed version. The upgrade has been applied successfully.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41404 size-large\" title=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-16-600x195.jpg\" alt=\"vsphere-replication-upgrade-procedure-16\" width=\"600\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The vSphere Replication Appliance is now upgraded to latest version and you can take benefit of <strong>new available features<\/strong>.
