{"id":43679,"date":"2020-04-21T09:00:42","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T07:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=43679"},"modified":"2020-04-19T11:07:52","modified_gmt":"2020-04-19T09:07:52","slug":"recoverpoint-for-vms-5-2-upgrade-procedure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/recoverpoint-for-vms-5-2-upgrade-procedure\/","title":{"rendered":"RecoverPoint for VMs 5.2 upgrade procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43689 size-full\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-01.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To upgrade the data protection solution <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/emc-recoverpoint-for-vm-5-2-installation-vrpa-cluster-setup\/\">RecoverPoint<\/a> by Dell-EMC you need to follow three steps to upgrade the software <strong>without disrupting replication<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The operations required for a successfull upgrade are the following:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrading the vRPA clusters<\/li>\n<li>Upgrading the ESXi splitters<\/li>\n<li>Upgrading the vCenter plug-in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>RecoverPoint for VMs 5.2 upgrade<\/h2>\n<p>Download from Dell-EMC website the <a href=\"https:\/\/dell.com\/support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RecoverPoint upgrade<\/a> and extract the ZIP file content anywhere in your computer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Upgrading the vRPA clusters<\/h4>\n<p>Using your preferred browser, enter the address of the first RecoverPoint cluster to upgrade and specify the correct credentials.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43769 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-02-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The version currently installed for this example is the 5.2 SP1 and the software will be upgraded to version 5.2 SP2. Click <strong>Upgrade a vRPA cluster<\/strong> to upgrade the vRPA members of the selected cluster.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43691 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-03-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are upgrading a cluster that has <strong>only one vRPA<\/strong>, you receive this warning. In this case it is recommended to <strong>pause all replications<\/strong> but the procedure will continue without full sweep or journal loss. Click <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43693 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-04-600x138.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"138\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The wizard performs a <strong>system check<\/strong>. If no errors are detected, click <strong>Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43695 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-05-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If all <strong>requirements are met<\/strong>, thick the <strong>I have fullfilled these conditions<\/strong> checkbox and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43697 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-06-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the option you prefer to <strong>download the ISO image<\/strong>. Downloading the ISO in advance may help to avoid nasty surprises in case the download breaks for line issues. Click <strong>Browse<\/strong> and select the ISO image to use then click <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43699 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-07-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The image is being distributed to the cluster.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43701 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-08-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the download to vRPAs has been completed, click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43703 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-09-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-09\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the <strong>version requirements<\/strong> file is automatically downloaded and validated successfully, click <strong>Next<\/strong>. This step ensures that the system meets the requirements.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43705 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-10-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-10\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If no tweak modifications or signed scripts are discovered on the vRPAs, thick the <strong>I have sent the modification file<\/strong> checkbox and click <strong>Upgrade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43707 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-11-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-11\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The cluster is upgraded processing one vRPA at time. If at least two vRPAs are configured in the cluster, the process is not disruptive to replication.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43709 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-12-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-12\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After some minutes the upgrade completes successfully. Click <strong>Back to the home page<\/strong> or <strong>Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43711 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-13-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-13\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The vRPAs have been upgraded to new version. The <strong>RP4VMs Plugin<\/strong> still reports the old version because it hasn't been upgraded yet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43715 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-14-600x481.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-14\" width=\"600\" height=\"481\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Upgrading the ESXi splitters<\/h4>\n<p>Step two involves the upgrade of the Splitters installed on the ESXi hosts.<\/p>\n<p>Enable the <strong>SSH in the hosts<\/strong> to upgrade and using a tool like <strong>WinSCP<\/strong> to copy the new splitter version to the <em>\/tmp<\/em> folder in the ESXi.<\/p>\n<p>Put in <strong>Maintenance Mode<\/strong> the first ESXi member of the RecoverPoint cluster and login with <strong>root credentials<\/strong>. Enter the following command to check the <strong>installed version of the splitter<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli software vib list | grep rp<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43717 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-15-600x304.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-15\" width=\"600\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remove the old splitter<\/strong> with the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli software vib remove -n RP-Splitter<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43719 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-16-600x139.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-16\" width=\"600\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now <strong>install the new splitter<\/strong> with the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli software vib install -v \/&lt;vib_full_path&gt; --no-sig-check \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43721 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-17\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-17-600x155.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-17\" width=\"600\" height=\"155\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Check the installed <strong>splitter version<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"># esxcli software vib list | grep rp<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43723 size-large\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-18\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-18-600x69.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-18\" width=\"600\" height=\"69\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Exit the host from Maintenance Mode.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-43725 size-full\" title=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-19\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-19.jpg\" alt=\"recoverpoint-5-2-upgrade-procedure-19\" width=\"594\" height=\"439\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Repeat same procedure<\/strong> for all ESXi hosts member of the RecoverPoint cluster.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Upgrading the vCenter plug-in<\/h4>\n<p>Last step is the upgrade of the vCenter plug-in.
