Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure (VBA) is a new product by Veeam to protect running workloads in Azure<\/strong> and can be easily installed from the Azure Marketplace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Backups of Azure VMs are saved to the storage accounts's containers<\/strong> used in Microsoft Azure<\/a> for high availability, cost-effective and long-term storage.<\/p>\n

Install Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure<\/h2>\n

Login to Azure portal and click on Create a resource<\/strong> under Azure services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Type veeam<\/em> in the search box to quickly find the application to use then select Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure<\/strong>\u00a0from the list.<\/p>\n

Click Create<\/strong> to deploy the product in your Azure environment.<\/p>\n

In the Basics<\/strong> tab, specify the Subscription<\/strong> plan to use and select from the Resource group<\/strong> drop-down menu the Resource Group previously created. Enter the Virtual machine name<\/strong> and DO NOT enable the Azure Spot Instance<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

As Size<\/strong>, Veeam VM requires a minimum of 2 vCPU and 4GB of RAM<\/strong>. By default, the installer selects the optimal VM size based on the performance and low cost maintenance.\u00a0Select Password<\/strong> as Authentication type<\/strong> and specify Username<\/strong> and Password<\/strong> to login to the application. Click Next : Disks ><\/strong> to specify the disk type to use for backups.<\/p>\n

For a better performance select Premium SSD<\/strong> option from the OS disk type<\/strong> drop-down menu. Some options cannot be changed<\/strong> since are pre-configured by the package. Click Next : Networking ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select from the Virtual network<\/strong> drop-down menu the object created during the configuration of the Azure environment as well as the Subnet<\/strong>\u00a0to use.<\/p>\n

Click Next : Management ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the previously created Storage Account for the Diagnostic storage account<\/strong> parameter.<\/p>\n

Set Enable auto-shutdown<\/strong> as On<\/strong> and specify the Shutdown time<\/strong>. This is a cool feature that allows you to shutdown the VM when not in use<\/strong> to save some money. Click Next : Advanced ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Next: Tags ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Next: Review + create ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once validated successfully, click Create<\/strong> to deploy Veeam Backup<\/a> for Microsoft Azure appliance.<\/p>\n

After few seconds the appliance is deployed in your Azure environment.<\/p>\n

Go to Dashboard > All resources<\/strong> and select the deployed appliance to identify the IP address<\/strong> assigned to the VM by Azure. This IP address will be used to connect the VM via HTTPS protocol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the address https:\/\/<IP_address_VBA><\/span> in your preferred browser to connect the Veeam's appliance. Enter the credentials<\/strong> specified during the configuration and click Log in<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Veeam Bakup for Microsoft Azure's Getting Started<\/strong> page is displayed. From this page you can configure Veeam<\/strong> to reflect your Azure environment and create the required backup jobs.<\/p>\n
