{"id":45070,"date":"2020-08-25T09:00:18","date_gmt":"2020-08-25T07:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=45070"},"modified":"2020-08-25T09:15:49","modified_gmt":"2020-08-25T07:15:49","slug":"vmware-horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware Horizon 7.12: delete instant clones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45480 size-full\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-01.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the pool is disabled, replicas used by <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-7-12-instant-clone-setup-pt-4\/\">Instant Clones<\/a> are not removed automatically from vSphere, and even though they don't use resources, they <strong>consume storage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The problem can be noticed when <strong>disabling the Desktop Pools<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/products\/horizon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VMware Horizon<\/a> manager through the <strong>Status &gt; Disable Desktop Pool<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45498 size-large\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-02-600x264.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even disabling the pool, <em>cp-paren<\/em>t\u00a0and <em>cp-replicate<\/em> objects\u00a0<strong>are not removed<\/strong> from vSphere environment.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45500 size-full\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-03.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-03\" width=\"419\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately the <strong>Delete from disk<\/strong> option available in vSphere Web Client is <strong>grayed out<\/strong> for these objects then you can't remove them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45502 size-large\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-04-600x695.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"695\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To solve this matter, the Horizon installation includes the <strong>Instant Clone Cleanup Tool<\/strong> designed to remove these objects from vSphere.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Delete Instant Clones<\/h2>\n<p>Login to the Windows Server where the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-7-12-installing-connection-server-pt-1\/\">Horizon Connection Server<\/a> is installed and open the <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong>. Navigate to <em>C:\\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware View\\Server\\tools\\bin&gt;<\/em> directory and run the following command to <strong>connect the vCenter<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>iccleanup.cmd -vc &lt;vCenter&gt; -uid administrator@vsphere.local -skipCertVeri<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">cd \\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware View\\Server\\tools\\bin<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">C:\\...\\bin&gt;iccleanup.cmd -vc vcsa01 -uid administrator@lab.local -skipCertVeri<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45504 size-large\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-05-600x279.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"279\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter the command <em>list<\/em> to <strong>display available objects<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&gt; list<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45506 size-large\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-06-600x311.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Identify the index of the <strong>internal VM group to remove<\/strong> and enter the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&gt; delete --index 1<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45508 size-large\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-07-600x183.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now check if the group has been removed:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&gt; back<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&gt; list<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-45510 size-large\" title=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-08-600x242.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The internal VMs have been removed succesfully. Looking at vSphere Web Client, now <strong>no objects are present<\/strong> in the Resource Pool.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-45512\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/horizon-7-12-delete-instant-clones-09.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"419\" height=\"393\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Instant Clone Cleanup Tool<\/strong> is very useful to remove useless clones left by the system and to <strong>free up storage space<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the pool is disabled, replicas used by Instant Clones are not removed automatically from vSphere, and even though they don't use resources, they consume storage.
