AppStacks<\/a> is a bunch of applications and data<\/strong> bundled into read-only containers that can be assigned to users, groups, or accounts and delivered through them.<\/p>\n

Despite the documentation states that you can configure\u00a0up to 10 AppStacks<\/strong>\u00a0per user\/machine, it is recommended to\u00a0keep less than 5<\/strong>\u00a0to keep the login time acceptable.<\/p>\n

Create AppStacks<\/h2>\n

To provide applications to entitled users or groups, you need first to configure the requested packages to deploy.<\/p>\n

To create an application, access the VMware App Volumes and enter the credentials. Click Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Create Applications<\/h4>\n

Go to Applications<\/strong> tab and click on Create<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n

Enter a Name<\/strong> for the application that will contains the packages assigned to users or groups. Leave Create a Package<\/strong> option enabled and click Create<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Create<\/strong> to create the application.<\/p>\n

Create a Package<\/h4>\n

Enter the Name<\/strong> of the package to configure and click Create<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select option Perform in the background<\/strong> and click Create<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The package is being created.<\/p>\n

When the Status<\/strong> is reported as Unpackaged<\/strong>, the system is ready to build the package. Click on the + (plus) icon<\/strong> to expand the selection.<\/p>\n

Click Package<\/strong> button to begin the packaging procedure.<\/p>\n

To build the package you need a powered on machine<\/strong> to be used as packaging machine<\/strong>. Enter a text that contains the machine's name in the Find Packaging Computer<\/strong> field and click Search<\/strong>. Machines with Status<\/strong> as Available<\/strong> can be used to build the package. Select the desired machine and click Package<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Start Packaging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Package the application<\/h4>\n

Download the application to package<\/strong> and copy it to the packaging machine. When ready, click OK<\/strong> in the bottom right window.<\/p>\n

Leave the message untouched until the installation of the application<\/strong> has been completed.<\/p>\n

Install the application to deploy<\/h4>\n

During the procedure the application will be packaged<\/strong> by the VMware App Volumes system. In the example, the Slim PDF Reader<\/em> software is used.<\/p>\n

Run the installation wizard of the chosen application. Accept the EULA and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default location and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Install<\/strong> to proceed with the installation.<\/p>\n

The software is being installed in the packaging machine.<\/p>\n

When the installation of the application has been completed, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

Click Yes<\/strong> in the window to complete the packaging operation.<\/p>\n

You can change the application Name<\/strong> if required. Click Finalize<\/strong> to complete the packaging procedure.<\/p>\n

Click OK<\/strong> to restart the machine to complete the packaging process.<\/p>\n

Once rebooted, login to the packaging machine. The packaging procedure finalizes.<\/p>\n

After few seconds, the packaging process completes. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Go back to VMware App Volumes and click the refresh icon<\/strong> to update the screen. The application is now available to be assigned.<\/p>\n

In the Programs<\/strong> tab you can see the just packaged application.<\/p>\n

Assign the application to users or groups<\/h4>\n

To provide the configured program to specific users or groups, you need to assign the application. Click Assign<\/strong> to proceed.<\/p>\n

Enter in the Search Active Directory<\/strong> field the string to identify the correct user or groups then click Search<\/strong>. Select the desired user or groups with the Status<\/strong> shown as Available<\/strong>. Select Package<\/strong> as Assignment Type<\/strong> and click Assign<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Assign<\/strong> to entitle the selected user or groups.<\/p>\n

The application is now packaged and assigned.<\/p>\n

In the Assignment<\/strong> tab you can see the assigned packages to users and groups.<\/p>\n

Test the configured AppStacks<\/h2>\n

To check if the configured application is assigned to the entitled user, enter the user's credentials in the Horizon client and click Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If everything works as expected, the assigned application is available to the logged user<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
