{"id":48947,"date":"2021-06-09T09:00:05","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T07:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=48947"},"modified":"2021-08-21T20:28:56","modified_gmt":"2021-08-21T18:28:56","slug":"veeam-v11-linux-backup-proxy-configuration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-v11-linux-backup-proxy-configuration\/","title":{"rendered":"Veeam v11: Linux Backup Proxy configuration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-48967 size-full\" title=\"veeam-linux-proxy-configuration-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/veeam-linux-proxy-configuration-01.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-linux-proxy-configuration-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-v11-whats-new-and-upgrade-procedure\/\">Veeam Backup &amp; Replication v11<\/a>, Linux Backup Proxy has been improved and now works in the <strong>same way as Windows version<\/strong> providing almost all the available features.<\/p>\n<p>Linux Backup Proxy has been introduced in previous version providing Hot-Add capability only, but with Veeam Backup &amp; Replication v11 all transport modes are now fully supported.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In VBR version 11, the Linux Backup Proxy has the following capabilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical or Virtual<\/li>\n<li>Transport mode: NDB, Direct SAN, Hot-Add<\/li>\n<li>Backup from Storage Snapshot (iSCSI, FC)<\/li>\n<li>Quick Rollback \/ CBT Restore<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Limitations<\/h2>\n<p>Although most features are now available in the Linux Backup Proxy, there are some <strong>limitations that must be considered<\/strong> during the design process. The Linux Backup Proxy presents the following limitations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cannot be used as guest interaction proxy.<\/li>\n<li>cannot be used with VMware Cloud on AWS.<\/li>\n<li>Open-iSCSI initiator must be enabled for Direct SAN access.<\/li>\n<li>NFS protocol is not supported for integration with storage systems.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"List_L2\">VM copy<\/span> scenario is not supported when Hot-Add transport mode is used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Supported Linux distribution<\/h2>\n<p>Veeam doesn't provide a <strong>ready-to-go Linux appliance<\/strong> to use as Proxy Server, but you need to create a virtual machine installing a supported Linux distribution:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CentOS 7\u20138.3, CentOS Stream<\/li>\n<li>Debian 9.0\u201310.8<\/li>\n<li>Fedora 30\u201333<\/li>\n<li>openSUSE Leap 15.2, Tumbleweed<\/li>\n<li>Oracle Linux 6 (UEK3) to 8.3 (UEK R6)<\/li>\n<li>Oracle Linux 6 to 8.3 (RHCK)<\/li>\n<li>RHEL 6.0\u20138.3<\/li>\n<li>SLES 11 SP4, 12 SP1\u2013SP5, 15 SP0\u2013SP2<\/li>\n<li>Ubuntu: 14.04 LTS, 16.04 LTS, 18.04 LTS, 19.10, 20.04 LTS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Install the Linux Server<\/h2>\n<p>Before proceeding, download the <strong>installation .ISO file<\/strong> of the supported Linux distribution you have chosen and save it anywhere in your computer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Create the virtual machine<\/h4>\n<p>From vSphere Client, create a new virtual machine. In this example the <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntu.com\/download\/server\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Linux Ubuntu<\/a> distribution will be installed.<\/p>\n<p>Access the virtual machine's console and select the <strong>language to use<\/strong>.
