To balance the Horizon components and route the traffic, the <a href=\"https:\/\/kemptechnologies.com\/virtual-load-balancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kemp LoadMaster<\/a> must be configured accordingly.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Blog Series<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/kemp-load-balancer-for-vmware-horizon-deployment-pt-1\/\">Kemp Load Balancer for VMware Horizon deployment - pt.1<\/a><br \/>\nKemp Load Balancer for VMware Horizon configuration - pt.2<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/kemp-load-balancer-for-vmware-horizon-configure-ha-pt-3\/\">Kemp Load Balancer for VMware Horizon configure HA - pt.3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Kemp Load Balancer network setup<\/h2>\n<p>Access the LoadMaster login page, enter the <em>bal<\/em> credentials and click <strong>Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50051 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-02-600x203.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"203\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since the appliance must balance both DMZ and LAN components, the <strong>eth1 NIC<\/strong> needs to be configured by setting a DMZ IP address. Go to <strong>System Configuration &gt; Network Setup &gt; Interfaces &gt; eth1<\/strong> section, enter the <strong>Interface Address<\/strong> and click <strong>Set Address<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50053 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-03-600x256.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"256\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm the configured IP Address.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50055 size-full\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-04.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-04\" width=\"410\" height=\"133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Configured the DMZ NIC, go to <strong>System Configuration &gt; Host &amp; DNS Configuration<\/strong> section to complete the network settings configuration. Enter the <strong>Hostname<\/strong> then click <strong>Set Hostname<\/strong>. Specify the <strong>DNS Search Domain<\/strong> and click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50057 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-05-600x373.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As suggested by the best practices, in the <strong>System Configuration &gt; L7 Configuration<\/strong> section set <strong>Yes - Accept Changes<\/strong> value in the <strong>Always Check Persist<\/strong> field.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50059 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-06-600x354.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In <strong>System Configuration &gt; Network Options<\/strong> section, enable options <strong>Enable Alternate GW Support<\/strong> and <strong>Subnet Originating Requests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50061 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-07-600x360.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The main network configuration is complete.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Install Horizon templates<\/h2>\n<p>To balance the Horizon environment, Kemp made available some <strong>templates to simplify the configuration<\/strong> steps. From Kemp website, download the two templates for Horizon required for this configuration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.kemptechnologies.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115002216303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VMware_Horizon_View_7.tmpl<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.kemptechnologies.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360048925131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source_IP_Affinity.tmpl<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Go to <strong>Virtual Services &gt; Manage Templates<\/strong> section and click <strong>Browse<\/strong>. Enter the <strong>Virtual Address<\/strong> and select <strong>VMware Connection Server<\/strong> from the <strong>Use Template<\/strong> drop-down menu. Click <strong>Add the Virtual Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50073 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-13\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-13-600x240.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-13\" width=\"600\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We need to associate the Real Servers to the VIP. In this example, two Connection Servers are installed in the Horizon infrastructure. For <strong>Port 80<\/strong> no Real Servers have to be configured.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-51350 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-14\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-14-600x321.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-14\" width=\"600\" height=\"321\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The installed template provides all the parameters required to properly configure the kemp Load Balancer. Click <strong>Modify<\/strong> to configure the Real Servers for the <strong>443 port<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-51352 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-19\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-19-600x186.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-19\" width=\"600\" height=\"186\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Again, in the <strong>Real Servers<\/strong> tab click <strong>Add New<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50087 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-20\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-20-600x470.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-20\" width=\"600\" height=\"470\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The procedure is the same as we previously seen. Enter the <strong>Real Server Address<\/strong> of the first Connection Server then click on <strong>Add The Real Server<\/strong> button. We are now configuring the IP Address for the <strong>443 port<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50089 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-21\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-21-600x252.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-21\" width=\"600\" height=\"252\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Add also the second Connection Server to complete the <strong>LAN side configuration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure the DMZ Virtual Service<\/h2>\n<p>Now go back to <strong>Virtual Services &gt; Add New<\/strong> section to create the Virtual IP Address (VIP) for the <strong>DMZ side<\/strong>. Enter the <strong>Virtual Address<\/strong> and select <strong>UAGLB - Source IP Affinity<\/strong> for the <strong>Use Template<\/strong> field. Click <strong>Add the Virtual Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50091 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-22\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-22-600x209.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-22\" width=\"600\" height=\"209\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We need to associate the Real Servers to the VIP in DMZ. In this example, two UAGs are installed in the Horizon infrastructure. For <strong>Port 80<\/strong> no <strong>Real Servers<\/strong> have to be configured.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-51354 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-23\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-23-600x391.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-23\" width=\"600\" height=\"391\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Modify<\/strong> to configure the Real Servers for<strong> port 443<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-51356 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-28\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-28-600x238.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-28\" width=\"600\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Real Servers<\/strong> tab click <strong>Add New<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50105 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-29\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-29-600x471.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-29\" width=\"600\" height=\"471\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter the <strong>Real Server Address<\/strong> of the first UAG then click on <strong>Add The Real Server<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50107 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-30\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-30-600x254.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-30\" width=\"600\" height=\"254\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the <strong>Status<\/strong> is shown as <strong>Up<\/strong>, go ahead with next port to configure. Do the <strong>same steps<\/strong> for all the remaining configuration entries.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-51358 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-31\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-31-600x238.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-31\" width=\"600\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When all the ports have been configured properly, all the items must report the <strong>Status<\/strong> as <strong>Up<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-51360 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-32\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-32-600x272.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-32\" width=\"600\" height=\"272\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure the Administration Access<\/h2>\n<p>To increase the security, the management of the Kemp appliance should be allowed only from the LAN. Go to <strong>Certificates &amp; Security &gt; Remote Access<\/strong> and select the <strong>eth0: <em>LAN_IPAddress<\/em><\/strong> from the drop-down menu to restrict access from the LAN only.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50113 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-33\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-33-600x307.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-33\" width=\"600\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm the configuration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50115 size-full\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-34\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-34.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-34\" width=\"410\" height=\"165\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Specify the <strong>Admin Default gateway<\/strong> to use then click <strong>Set Administrative Access<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50117 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-35\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-35-600x374.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-35\" width=\"600\" height=\"374\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50119 size-full\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-36\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-36.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-36\" width=\"410\" height=\"133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Kemp <strong>configuration page<\/strong> is now accessible only from the LAN side.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Change the Default Gateway<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Default Gateway<\/strong> currently configured is good to route the <strong>LAN side network<\/strong> traffic but cannot operate in the DMZ area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50121 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-37\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-37-600x295.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-37\" width=\"600\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since the DMZ has a different Default Gateway, we need to specify the gateway used for the subnet associated with the DMZ area. Go to S<strong>ystem Configuration &gt; Network Setup &gt;Interface &gt; eth1<\/strong> and enable the <strong>Use for Default Gateway<\/strong> checkbox.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50123 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-38\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-38-600x255.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-38\" width=\"600\" height=\"255\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Automatically the Default Gateway page is displayed. Enter the <strong>IPv4 Default Gateway Address<\/strong> and click <strong>Set IPv4 Default Gateway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50125 size-large\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-39\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-39-600x230.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-39\" width=\"600\" height=\"230\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50127 size-full\" title=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-40\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-40.jpg\" alt=\"kemp-load-balancer-horizon-configuration-40\" width=\"410\" height=\"133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The DMZ traffic can now be managed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure Static Routes<\/h2>\n<p>Because the Default Gateway configured can route the DMZ traffic only, to route the traffic in the LAN zone we need to <strong>add static routes<\/strong> for all used LAN networks.
