You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54444 size-full\" title=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-02.jpg\" alt=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-02\" width=\"558\" height=\"133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Fix \"Windows cannot access the specified device path or file\" error<\/h2>\n<p>To fix this error, you need to enable a local policy in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/windows-server-2016-windows-update-stuck-at-0\/\">Windows Server 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong>Start &gt; Run<\/strong> type <strong>gpedit.msc<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54462 size-full\" title=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-03.jpg\" alt=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-03\" width=\"399\" height=\"206\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go to <strong>Computer Configuration &gt; Windows Settings &gt; Security Settings &gt; Local Policies &gt; Security Options<\/strong> and open the <strong>User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator<\/strong> policy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54464 size-large\" title=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-04-600x448.jpg\" alt=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"448\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"7ed3\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jp jq ih jr b js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km ia gi\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The available options are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enabled<\/strong> -\u00a0The built-in administrator account logs on in Admin Approval Mode so that any operation that requires elevation of privilege displays a prompt that provides the administrator the option to permit or deny the elevation of privilege.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disabled<\/strong> -\u00a0If Admin Approval Mode isn't enabled, the built-in Administrator account runs all applications by default with full administrative privileges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Select <strong>Enable<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54466 size-full\" title=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-05.jpg\" alt=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-05\" width=\"417\" height=\"507\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The policy is now enable. You need to <strong>logoff and logon<\/strong> again to activate the new policy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54468 size-large\" title=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-06-600x448.jpg\" alt=\"windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-file-error-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"448\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now if you try changing the network setting, the error \"<em>Windows cannot access the specified device path or file<\/em>\" is no longer displayed.<\/p>\n<p>As <strong>best practice<\/strong>, the Administrator account <strong>should not be used<\/strong> for administrative operations.
