{"id":54397,"date":"2022-09-06T09:00:47","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T07:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=54397"},"modified":"2022-08-28T18:05:07","modified_gmt":"2022-08-28T16:05:07","slug":"vmware-horizon-unable-to-delete-vm-folders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-unable-to-delete-vm-folders\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware Horizon: unable to delete VM Folders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54401 size-full\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-01.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>VM Folders configured in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vcenter-server-7-whats-new\/\">vCenter Server<\/a> Inventory <strong>are not removed<\/strong> during the VMware Horizon uninstall procedure and you <strong>can't manually delete<\/strong> VM Folders.<\/p>\n<p>Although is <strong>not an issue<\/strong> for the vCenter Server functionality, removing these folders keeps the vCenter Server <strong>configuration clean<\/strong> without useless settings that can be confusing for the Administrators.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54403 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-02-600x371.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"371\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Delete VM Folders<\/h2>\n<p>Normal VM Folders can be easily removed from the vCenter Server Inventory by right clicking the <strong>folder to remove<\/strong> and selecting the <strong>Remove from Inventory<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54405 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-03-600x486.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"486\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then click <strong>Confirm<\/strong> to proceed with the removal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54407 size-full\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-04.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-04\" width=\"576\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately VM Folders created by <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-true-sso-configuration-pt-1\/\">VMware Horizon<\/a> <strong>cannot be removed<\/strong> from the vCenter Server and an error message is displayed. This error occurs because the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-8-customize-the-login-page\/\">VMware Horizon<\/a> folders are <strong>protected by default<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54409 size-full\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-05.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-05\" width=\"416\" height=\"145\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To remove these folders, you need to login to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-horizon-7-12-installing-connection-server-pt-1\/\">Connection Server<\/a> and open the <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong>. Go to the <em>\\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware View\\Server\\tools\\bin<\/em> folder.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">C:\\&gt; cd \\Program Files\\VMware\\VMware View\\Server\\tools\\bin<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54411 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-06-600x71.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"71\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Run the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.vmware.com\/en\/VMware-Horizon\/2203\/virtual-desktops\/GUID-6025D684-2E05-4857-9C24-18F16DDC38FD.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IcUnprotect.cmd command<\/a> to <strong>remove the protection<\/strong> for the Horizon VM Folders and <strong>enter the password<\/strong> when prompted.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>IcUnprotect.cmd -vc hostname_or_IP_address -uid user_ID [-includeFolders][-skipCertVeri]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">C:\\..&gt; IcUnprotect.cmd -vc vcsa01.nolabnoparty.local -uid administrator@lab.local -includeFolders -skipCertVeri<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54413 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-07-600x416.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"416\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Delete VM Folders<\/h4>\n<p>Right click the VM Folder to delete once again and select <strong>Remove from Inventory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54415 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-08-600x482.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"482\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Confirm<\/strong> to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54417 size-full\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-09.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-09\" width=\"576\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now the selected VM Folder has been removed successfully.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54419 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-10-600x307.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-10\" width=\"600\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Repeat same procedure<\/strong> to the remaining VM Folders. You are now able to remove them all.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54421 size-large\" title=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/horizon-delete-vm-folders-11-600x327.jpg\" alt=\"horizon-delete-vm-folders-11\" width=\"600\" height=\"327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you <strong>already deleted all Connection Servers<\/strong>, you should temporarily setup a new Connection Server.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"signature\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" alt=\"signature\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VM Folders configured in the vCenter Server Inventory are not removed during the VMware Horizon uninstall procedure and you can't manually delete VM Folders.
