If you are using older version, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeam.com\/kb2053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upgrade path<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Prerequisites<\/h2>\n<p>Before proceeding with the upgrade, there are some prerequisites to meet to accomplish a successful upgrade.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Veeam Backup &amp; Replication 12 uses the <strong>same license file format<\/strong> introduced with <strong>version 10<\/strong>\u00a0then if you are upgrading from Veeam v10 you don't need to convert the license.<\/li>\n<li>The minimum supported version for VMware ESXi and VMware vCenter is 6.0 or later.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"List_L2\">The minimum supported version for VMware Cloud Director is 10.1.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If you are using a <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-v11-hardened-repository-immutability-pt-1\/\">Hardened Repository<\/a>, just <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/veeam-v11-upgrade-the-hardened-repository\/\">follow this guide<\/a> to succeed with the upgrade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56518 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-02-600x310.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-02\" width=\"600\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Upgrade sequence<\/h4>\n<p>To avoid service disruption, you should upgrade Veeam components by following a <strong>specific sequence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If <strong>Veeam ONE<\/strong> is installed in the infrastructure, this is the first component to upgrade.<\/li>\n<li>If <strong>Veeam Enterprise Manager<\/strong> is installed in the infrastructure, upgrade this component first.<\/li>\n<li>If you use both <strong>Veeam Enterprise Manager and Veeam ONE<\/strong>, first upgrade Veeam ONE then Veeam Enterprise Manager.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"List_L1\">If <strong>Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"List_L1\"> is installed on the same server as <\/span><span class=\"List_L1\">Veeam Backup &amp; Replication, <\/span><span class=\"List_L1\">upgrade\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"List_L1\">Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 first.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If you use <strong>Veeam Cloud Connect<\/strong>, make sure your Service Provider has already upgraded its system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Veeam Agents and Plug-ins<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Agent for Windows or Linux<\/strong> - version 4.0 will stop working after the upgrade. Version 5.0 is supported but newer features provided won't be available. Recommended to upgrade the Agents to v6.0.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Agent for Mac<\/strong> - version 1.0 will stop working after the upgrade. Version 1.0.1 is supported but newer features provided won't be available. Recommended to upgrade the Agents to v2.0 or later.<\/li>\n<li>If your backup infrastructure uses Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN, SAP HANA or SAP on Oracle, you must upgrade <strong>Veeam Backup &amp; Replication first<\/strong>, then upgrade the Plug-ins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Storage Systems<\/h4>\n<p>If your backup infrastructure uses a storage system, make sure the <strong>installed OS is supported<\/strong> in version 12.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"List_L2\"><span class=\"T_Controls\"><strong>HPE 3PAR WSAPI<\/strong> - <\/span><span class=\"List_L2\">minimum supported version 1.5.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L2\"><span class=\"T_Controls\"><strong>HPE Nimble<\/strong> -<\/span><span class=\"List_L2\"> minimum supported version is 5.0.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L2\"><span class=\"T_Controls\"><strong>Dell Data Domain<\/strong> - <\/span><span class=\"List_L2\">supported version of the operating system is 6.2 to 7.10.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"List_L2\"><span class=\"T_Controls\"><strong>HPE StoreOnce<\/strong> - <\/span><span class=\"List_L2\">minimum supported version is 3.18.18 for Gen3 and 4.2.3 for Gen4.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"T_Controls\"><strong>Cisco HyperFlex<\/strong> - <\/span><span class=\"List_L2\">minimum supported version is v4.0(2x).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"T_Controls\"><strong>Huawei<\/strong> - <\/span><span class=\"List_L2\">storage system not supported.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Before the upgrade<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Verify latest backups have been completed successfully.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"List_L1\">Make sure no Backup Jobs are running. In case of wait until they are completed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"List_L1\">Disable Backup Copy Jobs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"List_L1\">Disable CDP policies to allow the upgrade of the CDP filter will not be upgraded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Ensure there are no active tasks from standalone (unmounted) agents.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure there are no active Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Perform the configuration backup.<\/li>\n<li>Check if encryption is enabled for your configuration backup otherwise stored credentials will not be included.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Upgrade Veeam Backup &amp; Replication to v12<\/h2>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeam.com\/downloads.html?ad=top-sub-menu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Veeam website<\/a>, <strong>download the ISO<\/strong> of Veeam Backup &amp; Replication v12.<\/p>\n<p>Mount the ISO in the Veeam Backup Server to upgrade then double click the <strong>setup.exe file<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Upgrade<\/strong> to start the upgrade procedure.\u00a0If you have Veeam Enterprise manager, this is the first component to upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56520 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-03-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>Upgrade Veeam Backup &amp; Replication<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56522 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-04-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>I Accept<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56524 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-05-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-05\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Check the <strong>Update remote components automatically<\/strong> option then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56526 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-06-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-06\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Make sure a <strong>valid License<\/strong> is installed in the system then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56528 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-07-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-07\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wait few seconds while missing features are enabled.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56530 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-08-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>LOCAL SYSTEM account (Recommended)<\/strong> and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56532 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-09-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-09\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the appropriated <strong>Database configuration<\/strong> then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56534 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-10-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-10\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Yes<\/strong> to proceed with database upgrade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56536 size-full\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-11\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-11.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-11\" width=\"499\" height=\"181\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The system performs the pre-upgrade check for possible <strong>compatibility issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56538 size-large\" title=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-12\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/veeam-upgrade-v12-12-600x467.jpg\" alt=\"veeam-upgrade-v12-12\" width=\"600\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Read the reported <strong>Compatibility Issues<\/strong> carefully then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.
