To perform the VMware Backup using the Vembu BDRSuite 5.6<\/a> backup solution is an easy task and requires only few minutes to be configured properly.<\/p>\n

Before proceeding with the VMware Backup configuration, make sure you have Vembu BDRSuite<\/a> 5.6 up and running with the correct license.<\/p>\n

Once the Vembu BDRSuite installation has been completed, there are some additional steps<\/strong> to do to configure the software to perform the correct VMware Backup.<\/p>\n

Login to Vembu BDRSuite by entering the correct Username<\/strong> and Password<\/strong>. Click Sign In<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Configure the Backup Repository<\/h2>\n

First step is the creation of the Backup Repository to store the VMware Backup.<\/p>\n

From the dashboard, click Create New Block Storage Repository<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the Repository Name<\/strong>, Repository Type<\/strong> then click Add Network Drive as Storage Volume<\/strong>\u00a0to add the correct repository.<\/p>\n

Thick the warning checkbox then enter Drive Path<\/strong>, Display Drive Name<\/strong> and the credentials to connect. Click Save<\/strong> when done.<\/p>\n

Select the just configured Backup Repository and click Create<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Add the vCenter Server<\/h2>\n

Adding the vCenter Server or the ESXi host to Vembu BDRSuite is the next operation to do. This allow to retrieve the VMs to protect<\/strong> from your VMware environment.<\/p>\n

From Vembu BDRSuite's main dashboard, select Data Source >Add VMware vSphere > ESXi & vCenter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Add ESXi\/vCenter Server<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Enter the ESXi Server Name \/ IP Address<\/strong> of the vCenter Server \/ ESXi host to add. If you don't have any saved Credential<\/strong>, click Add Credential<\/strong> to create one.<\/p>\n

Enter the Credential Name<\/strong>, Username<\/strong> and Password<\/strong> then click Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Configure the VMware Backup Job<\/h2>\n

Once the Backup Repository and the vCenter Server have been configured, is now time to configure the VMware Backup Job to protect the desired VMs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Form the main dashboard, select Configure Backup > Configure Backup > VMware vSphere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you don't have any existing Template, select Create Job without using a Template<\/strong> option and enter the Backup Job Name<\/strong> to configure. Specify the Backup Repository<\/strong> type and the Repository Name<\/strong>. Optionally add a Job Description<\/strong> then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the VMs to protect and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you need to exclude one or more disks<\/strong> from the backup, select the VM to process from the Disk Exclusion<\/strong> tab and click Exclude Disk(s)<\/strong> button. Select Exclude the following selected Disks from backup<\/strong> option and select the disks to exclude then click Apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Make sure that all required VMs with the excluded disk have been configured then click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

To ensure consistent backups<\/strong> for the supported applications, in the Guest Processing Settings<\/strong> tab select the VM to process and click Edit Guest Processing Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the desired options and click Apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The settings configured are displayed next to the VM Name<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the Guest Credentials<\/strong> section you need to specify the credential used by Vembu BDRSuite to process the VM<\/strong>. Select the VM to process and click Apply credential<\/strong> to set the correct credentials to use during the application-aware processing.<\/p>\n

In the VMware Quiescing<\/strong> section, leave default settings to ensure consistency for your backups. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the desired Schedule<\/strong> for the VMware Backup Job and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the Retention<\/strong> for the Backup Job. Enable the Retention for incremental backup<\/strong> switch to set the number of restore points to retain (by default all restore points are retained).<\/p>\n

In the Encryption<\/strong> section you can activate the encryption for the backup by switching the selector to Enabled<\/strong> and by entering a Password<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If any Backup Proxy is configured in the infrastructure, specify the Proxy to use in the Advanced Settings<\/strong> section. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Review the Backup configuration and click Save<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n

To test the VMware Backup Job without waiting for the scheduled time, click on the run icon<\/strong> to run the backup immediately.<\/p>\n

Select Incremental Backup<\/strong> and specify All Hosts\/VMs<\/strong>. Click Yes, Schedule Now<\/strong> to proceed.<\/p>\n

The backup starts and the Status<\/strong> is reported as In Progress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
