{"id":62733,"date":"2024-07-09T09:00:29","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T07:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=62733"},"modified":"2024-07-09T09:04:27","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T07:04:27","slug":"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-released\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware vSphere 8.0 Update 3 released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-62737 size-full\" title=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-01.jpg\" alt=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Broadcom VMware released the new <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/upgrade-vcenter-server-from-7-0-3-to-8-0-2\/\">VMware vSphere 8.0<\/a> Update 3 providing new interesting features and enhancements.<\/p>\n<p>The new Update 3 is focusing to improve Lifecycle Management, Hardware compatibility, Security, and workload efficiency.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>VMware vSphere 8.0 Update 3 highlights<\/h2>\n<p>Several enhancements and new features come with VMware vSphere 8.0 Update 3.<\/p>\n<p>Lifecycle Management is the area where the <strong>majority of new features and enhancements<\/strong> took place as well as the NVIDIA GPU profiles management.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"section2\">Lifecycle Management<\/h2>\n<p>The new vSphere 8.0 Updated 3 provides a significant enhancements in the Lifecycle Management area introducing new features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>vSphere Lifecycle Manager<\/strong> - includes the new vSphere Live Patch, Enhanced Image Customization and support for dual DPU configurations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>vCenter Reduced Downtime<\/strong> - vCenter Server can now be patched with minimal downtime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\">vSphere Live Patch<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Part of the vSphere Lifecycle Manager, in vSphere 8.0 Update 3 when a new patch must be installed to <strong>address a critical bug<\/strong>, vSphere Live Patch feature allows to patch the cluster <strong>without rebooting or evacuating<\/strong> the entire host.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">During the remediation VMs are <strong>fast-suspend-resumed<\/strong> (FSR), a non disruptive operation already used when modifying virtual hardware devices to powered-on virtual machines.<\/p>\n<p>FSR mode <strong>is not supported<\/strong> for VMs configured for vSphere Fault Tolerance, VM DirectPath I\/O devices, vSphere Pods.\u00a0Virtual machines not compatible with FSR must be <strong>manually migrated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\">Partial Maintenance Mode<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">When a vSphere Live Patch remediation task is performed, the host is put in a <strong>Partial Maintenance Mode<\/strong> where VMs will <strong>continue to run<\/strong> but new VMs cannot be created and the migration from and to the host is disabled (<em>picture from VMware<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-62739 size-full\" title=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-02.jpg\" alt=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-02\" width=\"547\" height=\"362\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Enhanced Image Customization<\/h4>\n<p>The <strong>customization of vSphere Lifecycle Manager images<\/strong> has been enhanced in vSphere 8.0 Updated 3.<\/p>\n<p>VMware Host Client (ESXi UI) and VMware Tools components can be <strong>deleted from the image<\/strong> as well as removing some <strong>non-essential components<\/strong> (such as vendor drivers, drivers to retain) allowing to <strong>reduce the image size<\/strong> (<em>picture from VMware<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-62741 size-full\" title=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-03.jpg\" alt=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-03\" width=\"584\" height=\"292\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Dual DPU Support<\/h4>\n<p>With vSphere 8.0 Update 3 <strong>dual DPU configurations<\/strong> are now supported ensure all versions are kept at the <strong>same version<\/strong> (<em>picture from VMware<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-62743 size-large\" title=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-04-600x351.jpg\" alt=\"vmware-vsphere-8-0-update-3-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"351\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>vCenter Reduced Downtime Update<\/h4>\n<p><strong>All vCenter deployment topologies<\/strong> are supported with vCenter Reduced Downtime Update feature.<\/p>\n<p>When the vCenter Server is updated, the <strong>Automatic Switchover<\/strong> option is available to reduce the service downtime (2-5 minutes).
