{"id":63267,"date":"2024-09-11T09:00:17","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T07:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/?p=63267"},"modified":"2024-09-11T08:17:35","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T06:17:35","slug":"proxmox-ve-configure-a-ceph-storage-cluster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/proxmox-ve-configure-a-ceph-storage-cluster\/","title":{"rendered":"Proxmox VE configure a Ceph Storage Cluster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63470 size-full\" title=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-01\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-01.jpg\" alt=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-01\" width=\"602\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Ceph Storage Cluster is a feature available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/proxmox-vs-vmware-which-platform-should-you-choose\/\">Proxmox platform<\/a>, used to implement a <strong>software-defined storage<\/strong> solution.<\/p>\n<p>Ceph is an embedded feature in Proxmox and is completely free to use.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Prerequisites<\/h2>\n<p>Before starting the installation of <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.ceph.com\/en\/reef\/rados\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ceph Storage Cluster<\/a>, you need to <strong>create a Proxmox cluster<\/strong> by adding the nodes required for your configuration.<br \/>\n<strong>Three is the minimum number<\/strong> of nodes to configure a working Proxmox cluster.<\/p>\n<p>If you don't have a Proxmox cluster available on your network, follow <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/create-a-proxmox-cluster\/\">this procedure<\/a> to configure a new one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Create a Ceph Storage Cluster<\/h2>\n<p>To create a new storage cluster, you need to <strong>install Ceph on all nodes<\/strong> within the <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/proxmox-add-a-nfs-storage\/\">Proxmox<\/a> cluster. Using your preferred browser, login to the Proxmox nodes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63472 size-full\" title=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-02.jpg\" alt=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-02\" width=\"402\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ensure that all nodes have the <strong>latest updates installed<\/strong>. Select the node you want to upgrade, then navigate to the <strong>Updates<\/strong> section. Click <strong>Refresh<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Upgrade<\/strong> to install the available updates for the selected node.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63474 size-large\" title=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-03-600x348.jpg\" alt=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-03\" width=\"600\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Repeat same operation for all nodes within the Proxmox cluster.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Install Ceph service<\/h4>\n<p>Before installing the Ceph service, make sure that each node in the <strong>Disks<\/strong> section <strong>can detect the disks<\/strong> you plan to assign to the Ceph Storage cluster. As a best practice, the disks used <strong>should be of the same size<\/strong> (100GB, 100GB, etc.) rather than different sizes (100GB, 50GB, etc.).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63476 size-large\" title=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-04-600x293.jpg\" alt=\"proxmox-configure-ceph-storage-cluster-04\" width=\"600\" height=\"293\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Connect to <em>node 1<\/em> and select the Proxmox cluster.
