Once the StarWind<\/a> VTL Linux appliance is deployed, the next step is to configure the storage pool and volumes<\/strong> to complete the setup.<\/p>\n

Make sure that the deployment was completed with no errors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Configure the StarWind VTL Linux<\/h2>\n

Access the StarWind<\/a> VTL Linux by entering the previously configured credentials. Click Sign in<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From the main Dashboard go to Storage > Physical disks<\/strong>. The system displays the available installed disk.<\/p>\n

Add a new disk<\/h4>\n

New disks can be added to StarWind VTL Linux<\/a>. From the vSphere Client, add a new disk.<\/p>\n

In section Storage > Physical disks<\/strong>, click Rescan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After few seconds, the added disk is detected.<\/p>\n

Create\u00a0 a storage pool<\/h4>\n

Go to Storage pools<\/strong> section and click the +(plus) icon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the disks to include<\/strong> in the storage pool. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select one of the profiles available that best meet the requirements and click Next<\/strong>. Based on the disk types installed, the profiles displayed in StarWind<\/a> VTL Linux may be different.<\/p>\n

If you want to customize the used profile, select Manual<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Manual configuration<\/strong> allows to customize the storage pool type<\/strong> and layout<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Create<\/strong> to create the chosen storage pool profile.<\/p>\n

Create a volume<\/h4>\n

Go to Volumes<\/strong>\u00a0section and click the +(plus) icon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the storage pool to create a volume and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specify the volume Name<\/strong> and desired Size<\/strong>. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the Standard<\/strong> filesystem to use (only licensed filesystems can be selected) and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Networking<\/h4>\n

As best practice, StarWind VTL Linux recommend a NIC dedicated for management<\/strong> and one for data.<\/strong> This step can also be done during the initial deployment<\/strong> of the appliance.<\/p>\n

If the appliance still has a single NIC configured<\/strong>, add a new NIC from the vSphere Client.<\/p>\n

In the Network<\/strong> section, the system detects the new added NIC. Select the new NIC and click the pencil icon<\/strong> to edit.<\/p>\n

Specify Data<\/strong> as Role<\/strong> and configure the network settings. Click Save<\/strong> when done.<\/p>\n

The added NIC is now configured.<\/p>\n

Install updates<\/h2>\n

From the main Dashboard click the gear icon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Go to Software update<\/strong> tab. If an update is available, click Install update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The update is being installed.<\/p>\n

When the installation is completed, click Go to the Login page<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Login to the appliance and check the installed version<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Install the StarWind Management Console<\/h2>\n

To install the required console to create the StarWind VTL device, go to Settings > Downloads<\/strong> and click Download console<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Install the console on the same server where your backup solution<\/strong> is installed or in another Windows machine<\/strong>. Double click the .exe file<\/strong> to begin the installation. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default location and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
