To avoid the <strong>cost of a Windows license<\/strong>, Nakivo can be easily installed on a <strong>Linux-based machine<\/strong>. This guide will use a virtual machine with <strong>Ubuntu 22.04 Server<\/strong> as an example.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Upload the OS installation ISO file<\/h2>\n<p>Once you have chosen the Linux distribution and version, you need to <strong>upload the ISO file<\/strong> to the Proxmox datastore to proceed with the OS installation. From a <strong>node that is a member of the cluster<\/strong>, select the datastore where you want to store the ISO file, then go to the <strong>ISO Images<\/strong> section. Unless you have specific requirements, the <strong>default values are appropriate<\/strong> for most environments.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leave the default install location (\/opt\/nakivo) - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>No custom certificates will be used - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Type <strong>1<\/strong> to use a self-signed certificate - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Leave the default HTTPS port (4443) - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Type <strong>1<\/strong> to allow the automatic upload of support bundles - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Leave the default Transporter port (9446) - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Leave the\u00a0 default data transfer port range (9448-10000) - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Leave the default Backup repository (\/opt\/nakivo\/repository) - press <strong>Enter<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-66986\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/how-to-install-and-configure-nakivo-on-proxmox-25-600x406.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"406\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Open your preferred browser and enter the URL <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">https:\/\/&lt;IP_Server_Nakivo&gt;:4443<\/span><\/em> to access the <strong>login page<\/strong>. The first time you access it you will be asked to <strong>create an administrative account<\/strong>. Since it's not always a good idea to use the Onboard repository, it is strongly recommended to add and use external and <a href=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/en\/configure-a-nakivo-hardened-repository\/\">immutable repositories<\/a>.
