Once Veeam\u00a0Backup & Replication has been\u00a0installed, we must create Veeam backup job to protect the business data<\/strong> and the virtual infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Of course the backup strategy should be planned accordingly<\/strong> in order to satisfy the real business needs.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Create backup job<\/h2>\n

From main screen select Backup<\/strong> then click Home > Backup Job<\/strong> to create a new Backup Job.<\/p>\n

Type a Name<\/strong> and a Description<\/strong> then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Through the Add<\/strong> button, add the virtual machines to backup. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the Backup repository<\/strong> to use.<\/p>\n

Click the Advanced<\/strong> button to access the Advanced Settings<\/strong>. The backup mode depends on your backup strategy. Can be Reversed incremental<\/strong> (recommended for backup to disk) or Incremental<\/strong> (recommended for\u00a0backup to tape, remote site). In the example the Reversed incremental is used setting an Active full backup<\/strong> on First Sunday every two Months.<\/p>\n

In the Storage optimizations<\/strong> field set the value to LAN target<\/strong> if a NAS storage is used as backup repository.<\/p>\n

To receive an automatic notification when backup completes, enable Send email notification to the following recipients<\/strong> field. To send email you need also to set parameters in Option > E-Mail Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Check Enable VMware Tools quiescence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default settings or adjust values in order to match your network policies.<\/p>\n

This feature is available only with Enterprise Plus edition<\/strong>. Click OK<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n

Enable Microsoft VSS<\/strong> and system indexing<\/strong> options. Select default Guest OS credentials<\/strong> used by virtual machines. Click Advanced<\/strong> to access additional options.<\/p>\n

If a virtual machine uses a different account, click Set User<\/strong> button and specify the correct credentials. Click OK<\/strong> when done.<\/p>\n

Click Edit<\/strong> button and access Applications<\/strong> panel. Set Microsoft VSS<\/strong> and Transaction log<\/strong> behavior options.<\/p>\n

Access the Indexing<\/strong> panel and set what has to be indexed. Click OK<\/strong> to save the configuration.<\/p>\n

When the setup is complete, the parameters set are shown in the Guest processing Settings<\/strong> window. Click OK<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n

Specify the Schedule<\/strong> for the backup job. Click Window<\/strong> button to specify the time periods<\/strong> available to run the backup.<\/p>\n

Enable\/Disable the Time Periods<\/strong> for executing the backup job then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When setup is complete, click Finish<\/strong> to save the job.<\/p>\n

Test the backup<\/h4>\n

To test the backup just created, right click the backup job then select Start<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When the backup completes, the job summary<\/strong> is shown and, if enabled, the notification email is sent to the specified recipient.<\/p>\n

Restore a virtual machine<\/h2>\n

To restore a virtual machine select Backup & Replication > Backups > Disk<\/strong>, select the virtual machine then click Restore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You can insert additional virtual machine to restore. When done click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the restore option requested then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Type a Restore reason<\/strong> just for later reference. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
