The error you receive is the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A general system error occurred:<br \/>\nValue specified is out of range. Range 1 to 256<br \/>\nValue specified is out of range. Range 0 to 16<br \/>\nValue specified is out of range. Range 1 to 256<br \/>\n\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile02\" alt=\"errorhostprofile02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile02.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"161\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Fix<\/h2>\n<p>To fix this problem you need to <strong>manually remove the references<\/strong> to the detached devices left in the system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enable SSH<\/strong>\u00a0access in the ESXi host you need to fix.<\/p>\n<p>Open an <strong>SSH session<\/strong> to the host who failed the host profile creation task then run the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000a0;\"># esxcli storage core device list<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile03\" alt=\"errorhostprofile03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile03.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"183\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A <strong>list of devices<\/strong> are shown in the screen.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile04\" alt=\"errorhostprofile04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile04.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Look for devices with no configured value in Display Name, Multipath Plugin, Vendor, Model, etc. fields. Take note of the <strong>affected NAA ID<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile05\" alt=\"errorhostprofile05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile05.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"471\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These <strong>devices are still referenced<\/strong> but need to be removed in order to solve the issue. To list devices with an\u00a0<strong>off State<\/strong>\u00a0run the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000a0;\"># esxcli storage core device detached list <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile06\" alt=\"errorhostprofile06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile06.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"109\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To <strong>remove permanently<\/strong> the devices, run the command:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000a0;\"># esxcli storage core device detached remove -d &lt;NAA_ID&gt;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile07\" alt=\"errorhostprofile07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile07.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"169\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now try creating the host profile once again.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile08\" alt=\"errorhostprofile08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile08.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"131\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This time the task complete successfully and the Host Profile created is shown in the <strong>Host Profiles tab<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"errorhostprofile09\" alt=\"errorhostprofile09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/errorhostprofile09.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"186\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Repeat the procedure for all <strong>affected hosts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"firma\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/firma.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In vCenter Server 5.5 the Host Profile creation procedure fails with error \"Value specified is out of range\".
