Right click the VM and select <strong>Power &gt; Shut Down Guest<\/strong>. Note the current ESXi 5.5 installed release with build number <strong>1331820<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma02\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma02.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"293\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once all virtual machines have been shutdown, put the host in maintenance mode right clicking the ESXi and selecting <strong>Enter Maintenance Mode<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma03\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma03.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"257\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the host is in the maintenance mode state, start the vSphere Management Assistant.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma04\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma04.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"87\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Login vMA with the credentials set during setup.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>username: \u00a0vi-admin<br \/>\npassword: \u00a0 <em>set during setup<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma05\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma05.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"123\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before proceeding with installation, you need to download\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">the Update 1 patch\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">from <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vmware.com\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VMware<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> web site then copy it to a folder in the <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">host vmfs datastore<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma06\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma06.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"236\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Check the <strong>patch content<\/strong> with the command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: actionscript3; gutter: true\">esxcli --server=hostname.domain.local software source vib list --depot=path_to_datastore\/patch_name.zip<\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"># esxcli --server=prod-esxi04.nolabnoparty.local software <strong>source vib list<\/strong> --depot=\/vmfs\/volumes\/lun01_service\/patches\/update-from-esxi5.5-5.5_update01.zip<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma07\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma07.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"321\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To <strong>install the patch<\/strong>, type the command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: actionscript3; gutter: true\">esxcli --server=hostname.domain.local software vib update --depot=path_to_datastore\/patch_name.zip<\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"># esxcli --server=prod-esxi04.nolabnoparty.local software <strong>vib update<\/strong> --depot=\/vmfs\/volumes\/lun01_service\/patches\/update-from-esxi5.5-5.5_update01.zip<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma08\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma08.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"61\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter the <strong>host root and password<\/strong> credentials then press <strong>Enter\u00a0<\/strong>to start installation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma09\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma09\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma09.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"321\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Reboot the host to complete the installation. Right click the ESXi then select <strong>Reboot<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"esxi55upd1vma10\" alt=\"esxi55upd1vma10\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/esxi55upd1vma10.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"258\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once rebooted, check the new ESXi <strong>release build number changed to 1623387<\/strong>.
