In Lotus Domino 8.5.x is not available a function to configure an auto reply message<\/strong> to inbound emails addressed to a specific user or group.<\/p>\n

When a user leaves the company, for instance, an auto reply message to inbound emails should be activated in order to inform the senders about his\/her departure. Unfortunately the Out of office function<\/strong> requires a return date<\/strong> to be set and it is not a valid option for this need.<\/p>\n

Looking for a solution, a procedure found in Gavin Bollard\u2019s blog<\/a> that uses Lotus Domino Designer<\/strong> to setup the auto reply message solved the problem.<\/p>\n

Procedure<\/h2>\n

From Domino Administrator<\/strong> select Files tab > mail<\/strong>. Right click the user\u2019s filename DB and select Open In Designer<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

In the left side select Code > Agent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click on New Agent<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Fill Name<\/strong>, Alias<\/strong> and Comment<\/strong> fields and set Type<\/strong>\u00a0menu with value\u00a0Simple Actions<\/strong>. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Objects<\/strong> panel, select Document Selection<\/strong> then click Add Condition<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Give to Condition<\/strong> field the value In Folder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select Inbox<\/strong> item then click Add<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Objects<\/strong> panel, select Action<\/strong> then click Add Action <\/strong>button.<\/p>\n

From Action<\/strong> menu, select Reply to Sender<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n

Check Sender only<\/strong> and Reply only once per person<\/strong> options.<\/p>\n

Type the message you want as reply<\/strong> to email sender then click Add<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Right click anywhere in the AutoReply (Agent) : Action<\/strong> panel and select Agent Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Go to Runtime<\/strong> tab and from Action menu selection<\/em> menu select After new email has arrived<\/strong> item. Close the window when finished.<\/p>\n

Save<\/strong> the new created agent.<\/p>\n

To activate the new agent<\/strong> type from Domino Server Console the command:<\/p>\n

Tell Amgr Run \"DatabaseName.nsf\" 'AgentName'<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

# Tell Amgr Run \"mail\\bscott.nsf\" 'AutoReply'<\/span><\/p>\n

Test the auto reply<\/h2>\n

To test the auto reply simply connect to an external email<\/strong> (Gmail for instance) and send an email to the account just set.<\/p>\n

If everything works as expected, you should receive an automatic reply<\/strong> from the system.<\/p>\n

From now on senders who will\u00a0send emails<\/strong> to to the configured account will receive\u00a0an automatic reply with the message previously set.<\/p>\n
