The configuration can be done accessing the Admin Console via browser.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zimbra.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Zimbra Collaboration suite<\/a>\u00a0is an open source solution for email, address book, calendar and tasks that can be accessed from a variety of standards-based email clients and mobile devices.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Check Active Directory account<\/h2>\n<p>To properly configure the application, it's necessary to figure out\u00a0AD users to create\u00a0in the mail system accessing <strong>Active Directory User and Computer<\/strong>\u00a0MMC\u00a0snap-in.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory02\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory02.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory02\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Right click the user to test with Zimbra then select <strong>Properties<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory03\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory03.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory03\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note the <strong>User logon name<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory04\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory04.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory04\" width=\"424\" height=\"299\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Configure Zimbra authentication<\/h2>\n<p>To configure Zimbra <strong>authentication mode<\/strong>, access the <strong>Admin Console<\/strong> typing from the\u00a0browser the address <strong>https:\/\/IP_Address:7071<\/strong>. Insert <strong>Username<\/strong> and <strong>Password<\/strong> then click <strong>Sign In<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory05\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory05.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory05\" width=\"500\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>Configure<\/strong> item in the left side of the window.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory06\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory06.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory06\" width=\"600\" height=\"220\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Domains<\/strong> on the left side then right click the domain to configure and select <strong>Configure Authentication<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory07\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory07.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory07\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select <strong>External Active Directory<\/strong> option then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory08\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory08.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory08\" width=\"600\" height=\"293\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Type the <strong>AD domain name<\/strong> and insert the <strong>IP_address<\/strong> or <strong>FQDN<\/strong> of the Domain Controller specifying the <strong>LDAP Port<\/strong>. From Admin Console, Select <strong>Manage <\/strong>item in the left side of the window.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory15\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory15.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory15\" width=\"600\" height=\"220\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Settings<\/strong> icon then select <strong>New<\/strong> to create a new account.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory16\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory16.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory16\" width=\"600\" height=\"172\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Type same <strong>Account name<\/strong>\u00a0as set in the Active Directory and the used public domain.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory17\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory17.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory17\" width=\"600\" height=\"252\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can recognize, <strong>no password field<\/strong> is present in the New Account options. This because the password is taken directly from the Active Directory. Click <strong>Finish<\/strong> to create the account.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory18\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory18.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory18\" width=\"600\" height=\"252\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you try changing the password of the created account, the <strong>Change Password<\/strong> option is <strong>grayed out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory19\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory19.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory19\" width=\"556\" height=\"346\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Test authentication<\/h2>\n<p>Open the browser and access Zimbra webmail by typing the server\u00a0<strong>IP_Address<\/strong> or the\u00a0<strong>DNS public name<\/strong> (i.e. mail.nolabnoparty.com). When Zimbra authentication screen appears, type <strong>Username<\/strong> and <strong>Password<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0the account just created then click <strong>Sign In<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory20\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory20.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory20\" width=\"500\" height=\"290\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the authentication succeeds, Zimbra user\u2019s webmail page opens. The used account has been <strong>authenticated directly<\/strong> from the Active Directory.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"zimbra8activedirectory21\" src=\"https:\/\/nolabnoparty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/zimbra8activedirectory21.jpg\" alt=\"zimbra8activedirectory21\" width=\"600\" height=\"359\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Zimbra is now properly configured to authenticate users against Active Directory.
