VMware Horizon 6\u00a0is a desktop virtualization solution that delivers\u00a0virtual desktop services. To implement Horizon, several components\u00a0need to be installed and configured. First step concerns\u00a0the Connection Server installation.<\/p>\n

Previously named VMware View<\/strong> then Horizon View<\/strong>, the new release\u00a0is now just Horizon 6<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites<\/h2>\n

Provision a Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 2012 R2 Server to install Horizon (only with these versions installation will work) and join the domain.<\/p>\n

Download Horizon files from VMware site<\/a> and copy the Connection Server installer<\/strong> (VMware-viewconnectionserver-x86_64-6.0.0-1884746.exe<\/em>) on the new provisioned server.<\/p>\n

Install Connection Server<\/h2>\n

Double click the VMware-viewconnectionserver-x86_64-6.0.0-1884746.exe<\/em> file to run the installer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Next<\/strong> to start the setup wizard.<\/p>\n

Accept EULA and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default installation path and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the View Standard Server<\/strong> option since this is the first server installation in the network. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Type the password to protect data backups<\/strong> then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select Configure Windows Firewall automatically<\/strong> option if the Windows firewall is used.<\/p>\n

Specify what AD groups or user (i.e. G_View_Admins) will have access to View console<\/strong>. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enable this option if you want to share data with VMware. Click Next<\/strong>\u00a0to continue.<\/p>\n

Click Install<\/strong> button to start the installation.<\/p>\n

Once the installation starts the progressive bar shows the ongoing status<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When installation completes click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

To access the Horizon administrator console<\/strong>, open your favorites browser and type the address:<\/p>\n

Because the View console needs Adobe Flash player<\/strong> to run, you need to enable\/install the program on the computers you want to access the console from.<\/p>\n

From your browser access the admin console and type username and password<\/strong> then click on Login<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Main\u00a0Horizon View Administrator<\/strong>\u00a0screen is shown.<\/p>\n

A valid license needs to be entered to activate Horizon View. Click Edit license<\/strong> button and type the license received from VMware. Click OK<\/strong> to confirm the license.<\/p>\n

Horizon View is now enabled.<\/p>\n
