In VMware Horizon 6 an RDS Host is the server that hosts Windows-based programs or the full Windows desktop<\/strong> for Remote Desktop Services clients.<\/p>\n

This part will cover the next configuration steps: install RDS Host, install View Agent and configure the Active Directory GPO.<\/p>\n

Setup the RDS Host<\/h2>\n

From the vSphere Web Client deploy a Windows 2012 R2<\/strong> Server.<\/p>\n

Add Remote Desktop Service role<\/h4>\n

When the server deployment has been completed, from the Windows 2012 R2 Server open the Server Manager<\/strong> and click Add roles and features<\/strong>. When the Wizard starts, click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select Role-based or feature-based installation<\/strong> option then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the name of the server and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select Remote Desktop Service<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default features and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Click Remote Desktop Session Host<\/strong> role.<\/p>\n

The Add Roles and Features Wizard<\/strong> window opens. Click Add Features<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Remote Desktop Session Host role is now selected. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Install<\/strong> to start the selected role installation.<\/p>\n

The screen shows the installation progress. To complete the installation the server must be restarted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When the server reboots, Remote Desktop Services is successfully installed.<\/p>\n

Install View Agent on the RDS Host<\/h4>\n

The next step is to install View Agent<\/strong> on the RDS host. Copy the agent \u00a0file in the server and run the installer.<\/p>\n

Accept the EULA and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default path and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the Horizon View Connection Server<\/strong> name and login credentials. The account has to be member of the AD group View Administrator<\/strong> defined during the Connection Server installation. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Install<\/strong> to begin installation.<\/p>\n

The program is being installed.<\/p>\n

When the View Agent has been installed, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

Reboot<\/strong> the server.<\/p>\n

Configure Active Directory GPO<\/h2>\n

Once RDS Host is configured, we define user security and access settings<\/strong> for RDS services as GPO.<\/p>\n

Open Active Directory Users and Computers<\/strong> and create a new Organizational Unit (OU). Right click the target domain then select New > Organizational Unit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the OU Name<\/strong> then click OK<\/strong> to confirm.<\/p>\n

Move the RDS Host server to the new OU<\/strong>. Click Yes<\/strong> to confirm the move.<\/p>\n

Now open the Group Policy Management<\/strong> and create a new GPO.<\/p>\n

Enter a Name<\/strong> then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Edit the GPO and navigate to Computer Configuration > Policies > Window Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment<\/strong>. Click Allow log on locally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tick Define these policy settings<\/strong> and click Add User or Group<\/strong> button. Add the users\/groups you wish to authorize then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click OK<\/strong> to confirm selected users\/groups.<\/p>\n

Now click the policy Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tick Define these policy settings<\/strong> and click Add User or Group<\/strong> button. Add the users\/groups you wish to authorize then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click OK<\/strong> to confirm selected users\/groups.<\/p>\n

Navigate now to the Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates: Policy definitions (ADMX files) retrieved from the local machine > System > Group Policy<\/strong>. Click the policy User Group Policy loopback processing mode<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select Enabled<\/strong> option then click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The GPO configuration is complete.<\/p>\n

Link the configured GPO to the OU previously configured. Right click the OU and select Link an Existing GPO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select the GPO and click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The GPO is now linked<\/strong> to the OU.<\/p>\n

The Group Policy Setting has been successfully configured.<\/p>\n

Create a Farm for RDS Hosts<\/h2>\n

Next step is the creation of a Farm. Access the Horizon View Administrator console and navigate to Resources > Farms<\/strong> tab. Click on Add<\/strong> button to create a new Farm.<\/p>\n

Assign an ID<\/strong> and set the Farm Settings<\/strong>. Click Next<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Select the RDS Host to add to the Farm then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Finish<\/strong> to complete the Farm creation.<\/p>\n

The Farm has been successfully created.<\/p>\n
