View Composer Server is a VMware Horizon 6 service that enable the management of desktop pools called linked-clone desktops by creating master images that share a common virtual disk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

View Composer can be installed on a dedicated Windows Server or co-located with the vCenter Server.<\/p>\n

Create ODBC DSN<\/h2>\n

From the\u00a0SQL Server, open Microsoft SQL Sever Management Studio<\/strong>, right click Databases<\/strong> item and select New Database<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter a Database name<\/strong> then click OK<\/strong> to create the new database.<\/p>\n

The new database has been created to be used by View Composer. Grant the access to the DB<\/strong> for the service account used.<\/p>\n

From the vCenter Server, access ODBC Data Source Administrator<\/strong> and select System DSN<\/strong> tab. Click Add<\/strong> button to create a New Data Source<\/strong>, select SQL Server Native Client 10.0<\/strong> driver then click Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter a Name<\/strong>, a Description<\/strong> then select the SQL Server<\/strong> to connect to. Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Select With Integrated Windows authentication<\/strong> option then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Change the default database to the new one just created then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default and click Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now click Test Data Source<\/strong> button to run the connectivity tests. Click OK<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

The new System Data Source has been created. Click OK<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Install View Composer<\/h2>\n

Copy the installation file to the vCenter Server and run the installer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Next<\/strong> to start the configuration.<\/p>\n

Accept the EULA then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leave default path and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Enter the Data Source Name<\/strong> previously created, the username and password<\/strong> entered in the ODBC. In this configuration the Horizon View service account<\/strong> created during the configuration of the View Connection Server. Double check the account has Local Administrator<\/strong> rights in vCenter Server.<\/p>\n

Leave default SOAP Port<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Click Install<\/strong> button to begin installation.<\/p>\n

The application is being installed.<\/p>\n

When installation completes, click Finish<\/strong> to exit the wizard.<\/p>\n

Click Yes<\/strong> to restart the system to apply changes made.<\/p>\n

Once server has restarted, go to Start > Administrative Tools > Services<\/strong> and configure the VMware Horizon View Composer<\/strong> service to run with a dedicated account. In this example the Horizon View service account<\/a> has been used.<\/p>\n

Restart the service<\/strong> to apply changes.<\/p>\n

Connect Horizon View with Composer<\/h2>\n

Open VMware Horizon View Administrator and navigate to View Configuration > Servers<\/strong>. Highlight the vCenter Server already configured and click Edit<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

In View Composer Server Settings<\/strong>, click on Edit<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n

Since View Composer has been installed in the same server<\/strong> as vCenter, select View Composer co-installed with vCenter Server<\/strong> option. Click Verify Server Information<\/strong> to specify the domain.<\/p>\n

A self-signed certificate was used during the installation. Click View Certificate<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Click Accept<\/strong> button to accept the proposed certificate.<\/p>\n

Click Add<\/strong> button under Domains<\/strong> and fill the requested fields. Click OK<\/strong> to save entries.<\/p>\n

The specified domain is added to the list. Click OK<\/strong> to save changes.<\/p>\n

The View Composer Server has been configured. Click OK<\/strong> to finish.<\/p>\n

The new icon indicates that both vCenter and View Composer servers<\/strong>\u00a0have been\u00a0configured in the system.<\/p>\n

Connect the vCenter Server and assign the View Composer privileges<\/strong> required for the vCenter Server user.<\/p>\n
