Nakivo v10.6: NAS Backup configuration

NAS Backup is the new main feature provided by the new Nakivo Backup & Replication v10.6 to protect file share data.

CIFS/NFS are the protocols supported to backup and recover network shares data as well as individual folders within the file shares.

Both Backup and Backup Copy jobs can be configured for file shares on NAS devices.

 

NAS backup configuration

To protect file share data, you need to configure Nakivo solution accordingly.

 

Add the File Share to Inventory

First you need to add the File Share to Nakivo Inventory.

From the Nakivo's dashboard, access the Settings area then select Inventory. Click Add New to add the file share to protect.

Select File Share as Platform to configure and click Next.

Specify the Display name, Connection type, and the Assigned transporter. Enter the Path to the share then click Finish to save the share to the Inventory.

Create a NAS backup job

To configure a NAS Backup job, from the dashboard menu click Create and select File Share backup job option.

Select the file share to protect and click Next.

Select the Destination (backup repository) to store the backup and click Next.

Specify the Schedule and click Next.

Specify the Retention Settings based on the business requirements and click Next.

Enter the Job name then click Finish to save the configuration.

Run the NAS Backup job

In the Nakivo's dashboard, select the just created File Share Backup and click Run Job to run the backup.

Select the desired Job run scope and click Run.

The backup job is being executed.

Depending on the amount of data to backup, after some minutes the backup completes successfully.

File Share recovery

From the dashboard, select the File Share backup job to process then option Recover > File Share recovery.

Select the restore point to use and click Next.

Select files to recover and click Next.

The NAS Backup feature provides three options to recover files.

  • Recover to custom location (CIFS/NFS)
  • Download
  • Forward via email

Select the Recovery Type option to use (Download in the example) and click Recover.

Recover to custom location (CIFS/NFS)

Specify the Share type and the Path to the share.

Download

The Download option allows you to download selected files in the local computer. Click Recover to proceed.

Forward via email

Fill the To and Subject fields then click Recover.

In the example the Download option has been selected. Files are downloaded directly to the local computer. Click Close to exit the Wizard.
