Nakivo Backup & Replication 10 provides the capability to store backups to Wasabi Cloud Storage with a cost effective and scalable solution.
Version 10 of Nakivo Backup & Replication is able to securely transfer Backup and Backup Copies to Wasabi Cloud Object Storage offering a scalable storage infrastructure. Wasabi provides storage capabilities S3-compliant with a speed up to 6x faster than Amazon S3 with a worthwhile pricing.
Both VMs and physical servers can be backed up to Wasabi and the following actions are supported:
- Restore VMs
- Restore individual files
- Restore application objects
Prerequisites
Before configuring the repository, make sure you have a working account and a configured bucket in Wasabi to store Nakivo backups.
To configure the Nakivo's repository, you need the following parameters from Wasabi:
- Region
- Access key ID
- Secret access key
Configure Wasabi as Backup Repository
First step to configure the new Backup Repository is to add Wasabi Cloud Storage to the Inventory.
From Nakivo's console, go to Settings > Inventory area and click Add New. Select AWS/Wasabi account option.
Enter all required Wasabi parameters such as Region(s), Access key ID and Secret access key then click Add.
Wasabi has been added successfully to the Inventory.
Go to Repositories tab and click Add Backup Repository. Select Create new backup repository.
Select Wasabi as repository Type and click Next.
Specify the Account, Wasabi region and the Bucket to be used. Click Next.
Leave default Compression value or, if you have different requirements, change it accordingly. This option cannot be configured after you create the Backup Repository. Click Finish.
The Wasabi backup repository has been created.
Create a Backup Job
Once the Wasabi repository has been configured, you can create a backup job to store data directly to the cloud storage configured.
From main menu select Create > VMware vSphere backup job.
Specify VMs to protect and click Next.
Select Wasabi as backup Destination.
Define a Schedule for the Backup Job and click Next.
Specify the desired Retention then click Next.
Assign a Job Name and to add an extra security layer, set Encryption as Enabled. Click Finish.
Test the backup
Select the just create Backup Job an click Run Job.
Select Run for all VMs and click Run.
The backup is being performed.
Depending on the amount of data to transfer, after some minutes the backup completes successfully. The backup is now stored to Wasabi backup repository.
Checking the Backup stored to the configured Wasabi repository, you can find the backup of the VMs specified during the Backup Job configuration.
Checking the Wasabi bucket used by Nakivo, you can find the stored backup.
Storing backup data to Wasabi Cloud Storage allows the administrators to have a scalable storage solution with limited costs since Wasabi doesn't charge for egress traffic or API requests but you only need to pay the storage space.
